A little late, but our house/area is good to go. The big/hard stuff seemed to have avoided a direct path to us, my wife's nieces mother/grandparents were not as lucky in the Kingston Springs/****son area. They are all ok but one does not have home and the other is missing a roof, other than that, they are safe. The videos on the news are just heartbreaking, so much damage and loss, makes you remember how insignificant we are in the grand universe.

I did get out yesterday morning, only saw an injured/limping young looking doe. I was hunting from the ground but there was now way to sneak on her for a shot. I know they are tough creatures, but I had every intention of sticking her. The beans are still in the lower field! My intention is to get out in the evenings as much as possible and just wait for feeding, my schedule is so busy with family events, I may not get another morning sit this season; it's crazy how fast the season passes. There is a downed tree that will make a nice natural blind, it also covers the meat and taters of the entry/exit spots of the lower field. If I remember correctly, its like 40 yards across treeline/treeline, so I should be with 30-35max ranges.

Well team, the bloodbath continues in Kentucky. I killed a doe yesterday afternoon that field dressed 106 pounds. This evening I killed a small doe. The pics are in the LFTS thread, but they're just does.

I have to say that I'm not really a big fan of hunting with only my bow when there is a firearms season in. Things seem to be working out okay though, in spite of the fact that if I'd had my muzzleloader with me I could have doubled yesterday and today. Then again, I don't really want to deal with the work a double entails.

Also, yesterday I could have killed a 5 point and this evening I could have killed a little 6 point. Either one would only have been a 50 point fergie buck and I just couldn't do it. I'm not that desperate yet.

Last year the farmer's son let me hunt his own land and it is prime territory. He leases it to a friend of his so I had never hunted it before last season. That's where I doubled and killed an 8 point and a broken off buck I mistook for a doe.

He stopped by my travel trailer earlier to tell me that he checked with the guy who leases it and said that if I wanted to I could hunt it again this year. I couldn't say yes fast enough. I can't go there in the morning because I don't want to walk in blind, but I'll be there tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: I just looked at the weather forecast. I may only get to hunt tomorrow and possibly Wednesday morning. Wednesday the weather is calling for south winds at 10-20 mph with gusts higher than that. Thursday is rain all day, Friday is thunderstorms and Saturday is rain.

I'm not going to sit here for three days with twiddling my thumbs, so it will depend on the wind forecast for Wednesday. I have to go west to get home. 20 mph winds from the south with higher gusts will make towing the travel trailer home a nightmare.

If the wind is forecast to be light Wednesday morning I'll head home then. If its going to be high winds Wednesday morning I'll have to head home tomorrow evening. I don't want to, but I have to take the safe option.

Another blow to the season, I really wanted to kill this deer but if unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Not sure of the cause of death, he had no wounds that I could see. He ended up being 131 5/8 as a 7 point. Image1639483675.813899.jpg Image1639483684.453064.jpg Image1639483692.485133.jpg Image1639483702.061982.jpg

Here’s the break down, my memory was foggy after the beers last night lol. He was 130 6/8, but nonetheless a very impressive deer. Long beams, long times, average mass. Definitely a heart breaker

Tomorrow is the fifteenth which is when I said I'd call my Euro guy for a status check and if needed will make a point to go tape it there on site before New Years.

Promises, promises. (Just kidding Ty.)

This evening was my first evening in Kentucky that didn't find me skinning and quartering a deer.

I almost shot a buck with half his rack broke off this afternoon. He might have scored 60 with just the one side. Assuming his missing side was similar he might have been a 130-135" buck. Still, I let him walk by at 15 yards. He hit the Ozonics stream and bounced out to 25 and then kept going. I could have shot him three times after he hit the ozone. Ozonics does work.

I'm really thinking I should have shot him, but then I'd still be out there skinning and quartering instead of drinking beer and posting on the forums.

There is bad weather coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so regardless of what happens tomorrow I'm going to button up the travel trailer, leave it here and head home early Thursday morning with the deer I have. My wife and I will process them and I'll come back either Friday or Saturday depending on the weather.

My goal for this trip was five deer. The first doe I killed this year in September was here in Kentucky and that left me with five tags. Now I only have three and I'd like to fill them along with my freezer before the season is finished.

I’m going out Friday after work
Wife has friends coming in town & staying with us so I got a kitchen pass
Weather tomorrow is forecasted to be 72 degrees with 60mph winds with gusts up to 75
Numerous schools have already closed (pussies) & travel is not recommended
    Straight winds will be tough

Another doe fell this morning in Kentucky. That's three in the cooler for the trip. So far.

It's supposed to start raining early tomorrow morning and rain through Saturday morning. I'm going to hunt this afternoon but it's supposed to be really windy with gusts up to and exceeding 35 mph. There is a big elevated box blind in the picked corn field that I was told I could use. I may just use it this evening.

I don't plan to shoot another doe this evening. This sit will be buck only, and I've seen quite a few small ones. All it will take is something with more than 4 or 5 points for me to launch an arrow. I'm not picky at all now, and the farmer said to shoot every deer I see. Well, I can't do that. I'd need a refrigerated truck.

Anyway, I'm going to button up the travel trailer and head home early tomorrow morning. The wife and I will get these deer processed and then I'm planning to come back either Friday evening or Saturday morning and hunt for a few more days. When I get back I may even put an arrow through that pesky 5 point that's been harassing me the last two sits. Hey, it's 50 points, and there's no such thing as QDM here. I'm expected to slaughter the deer and that's what I'm doing.

I do love it so.

Thanks Brett. Like I've said before, though, anyone could do this here. This place is literally crawling with deer and they aren't that smart.

I do have to admit that the deer on the farm I moved to yesterday aren't quite as uneducated as the deer on the other farms here. They aren't super educated, but they aren't the idiot deer I see at the T woods.

Plan is to try again this evening, we have rain forecasted until Saturday afternoon, but I have to do some tractor work at a friends house Sunday. The days are ticking off quickly, still need 1-2 more to feel good about avoiding this super duper awesome inflation issue going on.

Like I said in the LFTS thread, there are some does here who should be thankful I was only after a buck this afternoon. I had great shot opportunities at multiple does. One gave me a beautiful 10 yard quartering away shot. To be honest, I almost caved in and shot, but I'm pretty tired of dragging/gutting/loading/skinning/quartering deer for one outing.

I'll pick up where I left off when I get back here Saturday after the rain stops.

Oh, and when I come back if that wide fork horn or that annoying five point show up again I'm going to kill one of them. It'll only be 50 points but I might as well add 50 points to the freezer filling mission.

Edited to add that I just went to stand up and I'm pretty darned stiff and sore. I stopped saying "getting old sucks" a long time ago because it is a privilege denied too many people, but it sure does hurt sometimes. Heck, I'm not even old yet and it hurts.

Euro guy said he will have it done this week or next at latest. His whole family is heading to KY for Christmas and will be there helping rebuild homes for as long as they can, hoping three weeks or more.
Folks complain about the Amish a ton, but I’m telling you they’d be some of the first people to come to my aid if needed.
