Well team, I am sick and tired of hunting.

Let me re-phrase that. I'm sick, and I'm tired of hunting. I swear that the crap in my lungs is synced to the primary movement times of deer on my Hunting Calendar app.

It seems that every time deer are or should be moving more of the crap in my lungs breaks loose and I have a coughing fit. It has cost me three shot opportunities at this point.

I'm finished. I've been here for two weeks now and I'm ready to go home. I packed one stand out today. I'll go and get the other out of 'my valley" tomorrow and then I'm going to take my toys and go home.

I've hunted hard but I will leave here with nothing to show for it except one small doe and a ton of good memories. I did have a great time here this season. It was great to meet Steve (@S.McArthur ). He is a fine young man and he hunted hard while he was here. As it turned out he was the only one of us (family included) to kill a buck. It was also good to have Eric (@Ridgerunner3 ) here again.

You all should have seen my reaction to the news that Steve had killed a buck! I was dragging my doe when he sent the text so I didn't see it. When I got back to camp Eric said that Steve had shot a buck and I was as pumped as if I'd shot one myself!

Anyway, I had a hell of a good time and I hope Steve and Eric did too. Now it's time to go home and focus on ground I'm more familiar with.

Congratulations again to you buck slayers!

I know there are kills to be entered on the scorecard thread, but I just don't care right now. It can wait until tomorrow. I'm just done for tonight.

One quick edit to say that my second day here I saw the most gorgeous buck I've ever seen. Not the biggest, but definitely the most gorgeous. He was a 10 point that might have scored 140", but he was a little wider than his ears and his tines didn't curve, they went straight up, and he was very symmetrical. I'd have been happy to foot the bill for a taxidermist if Id killed him.

Finally got the buck butchered, caped out for taxidermist, and scored up. Now time for the story.

To start things off this year I knew I was in a growth year on my farm in SE Wisconsin where many 2 1/2 yr old and 3 1/2 yr old bucks had some solid potential that I wanted to see make it. Included in this class is a 2 year old 12 point that I roughed around 130-135. There were however a couple of bucks in that 3 1/2 class that didn't quite have the potential of the others so I put them on the "maybe" list haha. Now fast forward to this past weekend. Friday night I went out after a 4 year old buck named Ringo who has a solid mid 60's 4 point side but on the other just has a large brow and a main beam (damaged pedicle likely). Before heading out to stand Friday I grabbed cards off the part of the property I didn't plan to hunt, but while looking at cards on my DSLR on stand I found out that Ringo was locked down nowhere near me. So that night was a bust as far as older bucks, and decided to move to a stand I had in a transition from marsh bedding to high ground bedding. Looking over a multi-blend 1 1/2 acre food plot and a wildlife pond I knew I would at least see some deer. As morning chugged along I saw some deer, but minimal rut activity. However, the wildlife pond I was overlooking had quite a bit of midday movement from bucks getting a drink of water while they took a break from chasing. In particular a 3 1/2 yr old buck my 4 year old son named Butter frequented the spot. Butter worked the script perfectly, and came into the plot at around 8:05 and was zapped around 8:15. Shot him at around the 30 mark with him quartering to. Entered in front of close shoulder, and pounded through opposite shoulder taking out the front part of the lungs and heart with it. He only ran 37 yards from point of impact. Super fun having my son, daughter, and nephews along to "track" him as they live for this stuff. Greatest words was hearing my son say "Thank you for getting me a buck daddy". That's a big reason why I have started to focus away from the trophy mentality, and focus more on the fun of the hunt instead. Seeing my son, daughter, and nephews faces when they got to help me get my buck is a memory that will forever be burned into my mind.

Sorry to be absent, I’m dealing with some personal things, I’ll get them worked out and be back. I went out this evening not expecting anything and had this nice be big doe just walk by. I couldn’t resist and put a good fat doe in the books. Sorry for the bad pictures, between my son and wife it was like asking to move a mountain.

Good morning fellas, I'd like to explain the shot placement, not that you guys are worried about it. So, she was quartered away a bit harder than my eyes told myself, but I was also telling myself 100 times to "bend at your waist", a hard lesson learned in Missouri when I dipped my arm and shot 6" over the back of a really nice doe. Anyway, the arrow went in where you see in the pic, hit between the last two ribs and punched the heart, so, in a way a damn good shot, just not a pretty one. I watched her run into the beans make a hard left turn, did a wheelie and hit the dirt no more than 60-70 yards.
Really happy with the doe, she did have 3 little ones trailing with her, but they looked good and healthy. I hate shooting nanny does with yearlings ("not-yearlings"; Chief will get the reference), but this late in the season I see no reason why they can't make it on their own.
Chief, watching you hack up a deer did teach me some new tricks and it helped yesterday evening, although it was much more fun drinking Busch lights watching you work.

Awesome job @S.McArthur zero need to know, but know you're in my prayers. Your health as well @LittleChief

I took yesterday afternoon off to try and knock a reduction giant down....and the construction company came into work and didn't give me the courtesy call they promised.....so I sat up the tree and did some devotions and really just relaxed. Three of my million button bucks did come by but as expected no mature deer stepped foot near the noise and disturbance.

Also....man I kinda feel bad not having my buck scored...we'd be in first - BUT it will be a "bonus surprise" to others when we get it added LOL

FTR while selfish and I don't think this is how it works (know it isn't) I do keep asking God that the right buck walk in front of @fletch920 finally too! LOL

Starting tomorrow, I will be in the woods quite a bit for the next few days and it should be pretty good. The mature bucks have been locked down for a while now. Not even getting many night photos of them. But, they will be back to the seek phase any day now and back on scrapes. I am pretty pumped to get out and get a decent one on the ground. I will also take the time to put a doe down in the next few days. So, pray away my friend!

HA!! Don't be too disappointed when I don't put down a giant. After missing the whole season last year, I am getting a little punchy. I may lose my composure and kill a decent 3 year old. lol
