Now I can finally post this. Killed a few deer from it before the tree died.

not implying it was illegal in your state/area...just some of the APR zones I hunt are 4+ on BOTH sides. I support the rationale behind APRs but when it excludes big mature deer like yours you just gotta shake your head

 

I hunt a QDMA managed zone with a 4 on one side restriction. While it has produce alot bigger deer, 6 point genetics have been allowed to reproduce over and over again. You want to talk about some giant 6 pointers!

 

I agree, apr zones help, here in my area which is northern pa, it’s three on one side, unless your a youth

I own the biggest 6pt I’ve seen. But, I didn’t kill it. Back in the 70’s, some guys were painting the house next door. They had an old van, and wired to the front of it was a mounted buck head!
I asked if they would sell it and I offered $20, which was a decent amount at the time. They excepted. I took the rack off the crusty mount. I always wondered what state it came from. They didn't know.

Thanks. Yep, it was pretty beat up looking. The guys were very cool though, as collage age guys would be, but they couldn't understand my interest in that rack. lol To them that was just an easy $20 though. This was back when life was so much more mellow.

 

Funny how some spots withstand the test of time. These two old stands are very close to the stands I currently hunt! In fact, I was hunting from my stand when I first saw it only 30 yards away. I'm not sure but my guess is the past land owner put them up. He is a bigger man so even when they were new I would be skeptical they could hold up to his weight. Then again, by the way they look, maybe they didn't? The spots produce deer but the stands, not so much!

Found this one on Saturday.

 

Couple more, one on my land and one just across the property line.

 

I'd truly love going back to spots i hunted 30+ years ago.
I had no money for stands so I built them with scrap lumber.
I built MANY along about 50 miles of riverbottoms..
Memories can flood my mind over the crude ones I built.
Never had one fail though!.
Most were built in the summer.
Hot/mosquitoes days getting material in the woods no after what it took.
I can't even fathom now the work/pain I went through.
But MAN, those were good times.

 

I've had this small tree seat for 43 years.
Just pulled it from a big oak it's been in for years.
Sure is a handy little thing.

 

Found another one
