My best blacktail to date. Public land up here on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Taken early morning while still hunting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sighting in the back up bow today and doing some more laundry. Making sure all is right before the season kicks off.
Minimal adjustment. Shooting 125 grain thunderhead out of the 15 year old bow. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I was out Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. Had my first action last night. At least one doe winded another guy about two hundred yards away. I only know it was another guy because I waited an extra twenty minutes after legal shooting light and walked to where the does were. Saw his climber at the base of the tree. Lol he was sitting in the worst spot for the wind. It blew his scent right into the bedding areas and major travel routes. Rookies! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Went and hung a stand on Friday but won't hunt for a couple of weeks. Found a blind set up 150 yards upwind of my south wind stand. Kind of sick about it as this is (was) my best stand to take a deer from.
Looks like you are all ready for da killin there Joe. Love the set up! Hang in there - your efforts will pay off!
I was out for the opener Saturday afternoon... my first choice spot had 5 trucks packed into a 2 vehicle pull-in... spot #2 had two trucks.. spot number 3 was the first one I could find without anyone else parked in it... I made the most of the hand I was dealt. Didn't see a single deer, and got another wicked case of poison ivy lol... Ugh! Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk
After 50 plus years of slinging sticks at white tails, much of it on public land (mostly because I like the challenge). I have a few words of acquired wisdom for all you bow hunters of public land. Go deep, hunt quiet, be patient... trust me they're their!!!! When I say go deep... I mean deep. When you think you've gone far enough go a little farther. In my many years in the woods only maybe ten percent of my true trophy bucks (taken on public land of coarse) were taken in places where I've encountered other hunters. Hunt quiet means not just noise but also movement as well as scent.... be patient means you'll probably never shoot a 180 class or better deer if you fill your tag with a 140 class deer. I have eaten a few tag sandwiches through the years hunting the big boys but it's the price you must be willing to pay if you want to shoot a true once in a life time buck. I am older now and predominantly a meat hunter. I now leave most of the big ones in the woods for the youth... notice I did say most. I did take a nice 186 class Woodford county buck my first year hunting IL. Just a few years ago. Now I take the tasty does. Someone has to with all the bone hunters out there, and I'm eating well too. 3 this year already, but the freezer is full. In closing remember don't kill it just to kill it. There are hungry people in the world. Donate your unwanted meat.
I'd say change spots and spend some time studying your woods and locating deer before you sit to hunt. Just because you like the spot don't mean the deer do. Put in some pre-season scouting and glassing time. Success will come.
You are so rite. I've had many borrowed through the years. Funny thing is... no one ever returns them!!! Lmao
Guess who is planning on cutting out of work early tomorrow to get in an evening set!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hunted Friday and Saturday morning but saw only does from my stands. Did some scouting for scrapes and rubs and checked 4 cams. I heard a couple bull elk bugle before it got windy, but mostly enjoyed all the beautiful fall colors! Looking forward to hunting 3 days this weekend with some rain in the forecast. Had a new buck show up on cam, will probably pass him this year.
Fellow public land hunter here from NJ! Hunt multiple pieces of public in all corners of the state. Hunted this past weekend passed on three bucks and a doe and fawn. Only second time out this season. One was a maybe shooter but I didn't want to end my fall bow tag season yet.
