Hey guys my name is hayden and i will be bowhunting public land in oklahoma for the first time this year and im pretty excited to see what the public land has to offer.
Hi guys I hunt little chunk of private but mostly all public here in Wisconsin I don't put cameras out on public not worth the money to get them stolen Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I've had real good luck putting the cams up about 10-12' and just run cheaper cams in the event they do get stolen, (sub 100$ cams)
Figured this is the place for some advice since it's all public land. What are your guys thoughts on stand placement in this area based off of the topo map and the vegetation you guys are seeing? I'm thinking a stand on the green dot where the saddle converges with both draws and the ridegelines as well as some of the spurs. I still have to put eyes in the neighborhood come tomorrow or Wednesday but wanted some opinions before I do so. Season starts this Saturday! As you can see it also buts up to some private land! These are the spots that I would check out. I like all the saddles and would walk each one looking for sign, scraps, rubs, or defined trails. I would also walk down to the benches down the side of the hill to see how sign is there. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Will do! Hopefully get back to you on Wednesday with some good information! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Looks like a cool spot. Those bucks will bed on the leeward side of those ridges preferably on points. About 1/4 from the top of the ridge. Just some Dan infalt stuff to consider when it comes to stand placement. Good luck man! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hello all, I'm Nate and I'll be hunting public land here in VA. I am only a "part time" public land guy now but plan on eventually switching over to mostly full time in the next few years. The prices of leasing and hunt clubs here in VA is not unreasonable but I feel like I'm spending more than I need to and with 3 kids at the house I'm trying to trim the fat a bit. I do have access to 87, 33, and 20 acre family pieces as well. I primarily hunt WMA's here and occasionally a State Forest or NWR. I have found that during bow season these places are pretty much ghost towns with minimal pressure. The pressure spikes considerably during BP then gets really heavy from opening gun week through December. That's followed by a lull then a spike again over the Christmas/New Year holidays. Hoping to branch out to MD's Eastern Shore or Kentucky/Ohio down the road. I live right on the NC border also and they have a ton of public but after hunting NC for years I'm not terribly interested in getting back out there. I am a big fan of hunting swamps and marshes so I tend to try and find pieces that have those features. Oct. 7 = Bow opener here in VA
Im Jake and I will be hunting public land in Michigan this year. Have some good shooters on camera. Curious what you guys think these bucks will score and the ages of them.
I don't know, but that 10pt with the tall brow tines would be the one I'd be after! Great looking buck.
I'm going to be up in Ohio a few times hunting public, and a week from November 11-18th. Just logged about 16 miles on a two day scouting mission. Just going to depend on other people. Locally, I could end up on some public as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just filled my Ky tag on private land so I'm officially full time the rest of the year hunting public land in SE Ohio. Sorry for the crappy pictures I really need to get a phone skope for my spotter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Heading out to hang my second set on public land in PA, after this one dad and I have 6 more to go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That was awful, so hot and so many bug bites but it was worth it, gonna kill one from this set Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have been hunting public land since I started bowhunting in 1988. I hunt the Black Hills of SD. I guess you could consider it Big Woods with a lot of private land mixed in. No AG fields up here! Just seeing a mature buck is a challenge! No nutrition for these deer, so a 130 incher is a big one! 150 is rare but they do exist if you can find one. I have about 5 on camera that I will be looking for next Saturday.
