Been settled in since 2:40 for my second sit in Delaware, not much movement yet. 5 does and 2 small bucks yesterday, not bad for just setting foot here 3 weeks ago for the first time.

Heading out to a new area tonight to scout from the road. We will see what one looks more promising. I have one to the east and west both a half hour away.

I have big respect for public land hunters. I always hunted PL until I got permission for private. You need to know the land better than anyone else, get there sooner and leave later. I put the absolute most work into my PL deer and even though they weren't huge it was still an accomplishment. Now that I hunt private I almost feel like it's an unfair advantage for me because there is no pressure on the deer. Even though the land I hunt is loaded with deer. I still like to hunt PL just to just to stay sharp. Nothing like taking a climber out a mile on your back at 4 am.

I drove out to Ohio last weekend to set up some trail cams and get a better feel of the area. I'll let them sit for a month and then go back to check/hunt.

Still back and forth about making a trip out to Nebraska.

Just got an amazing call from DNR today. After waiting 4yrs I finally got a spot on some lottery based public land less than 5 miles from my house. I am so excited. Don't even care ifI see a deer while there. Just happy I got the spot. Seeing and shooting a deer is just an added bonus at this point. Woohoo

It seems these days, most of my hunting is limited to public ground. Having lost many good private properties over the years, this is a hard adjustment. Here is a little video I did of scouting a state park. The first photo is a pretty nice buck. Checking Trail Cams in a Public Hunting Area - YouTube

Here is what happened to me last year on a public land buck. I was patting myself on the back already for getting this guy off the ground at 10 yards in a high pressure public area. As it goes with Bowhunting - YouTube

4 hours hunted, one doe at 15 yds on Day 1 of the public land. I usually get skunked on Day 1.....

Just got out of the military and returned home too late to join a local club so I'm gonna hunt some state land here close. Went out today and did a little scouting for the first time. Found lots of good sign and even some hog sign. Gonna go back tomorrow and put out some corn and a trail cam and see what we got.

I made a post already posting these pics and a little story behind the hunt. This buck was taken on public land here in Kansas. I primarily hunt public land and this year I might hunt public exclusively.
