Was out this weekend. 10+mph winds from open till close with gusts of 30mph most of the day. Seeing some small bucks cruising, but only one good buck making a scrape about 70 yds away. A couple monsters on the trailcams during shooting hours during the week. If the weather is good this weekend, I'll head back out. Last weekend before gun season.

This is my first buck with my bow. I'll try to get the measurements and get it on the board in the next couple days. My 6 month old son was loving the antlers, so I'm assuming he is a future bowhunter!

i shot a buck ...couldnt find it last friday, then sunday popped another doe. in northern illinois the rut seems non-existent. still got lots of bigger bucks to kill if they ever move during the day! congrats to those who have shot deer and good luck to those who have not. lets get gun season out of the way, and get back out hunting on monday. good luck everyone!!!!!

Well, my Archery Season went ok. I shot a Doe, as most of you know. I hunted hard the finale 17 days of the season. I had a varity of small buck within range. Not legal to shoot. I had several longer ranges on some nice bucks that were legal to shoot, however they would not come any closer than 40 -70 yards away. As i said before i hunted hard. November 5th i had a great Buck for Pa come with in 35 - 40 yards but behind some brush and would not commit any closer. I was actually caught off guard when he came in to 35-40 yards. i was cleaning a Broadhead out that i shot and missed a squirrel with about 4/5 days before. i looked over my shoulder and there he was. i slowly put the arrow into my back pack along with the knife i was digging the dirt out of the broadhead. I slowly picked up my bow, all i needed was for him to come in another 5 yards. Wind was blowing slightly away from the way he was coming in from. No such luck. I had a nice 16 / 17 in spread 8 point earlier the same day a little further out, he didn't want to play either. Then came the MISS on Thursday 11/10/11. I was in a spot that i have seen deer in before, in fact i had Preacher Tony in a few years ago and all we seen were does then. Not this morning. i got to my stand early, waited for day brreak and at first light i rattled. He came running in. He Iin on the down wind side of me and never knew i was there, he walked right thru. He was 20 yards and i just picked up my bow, as i slowly turned from one side of the tree stand to the other( VERY SLOWLY) AND CAME TO FULL DRAW he started to walk directly away from me. I "MAAH" to get him to stop and it took him a few steps to stop. He turned slightly 1/4 away. i fired and the arrow went just under him. I think it was the same buck that i saw on the first day of ARCHERY SEASON.

Well Rifle Season is just around the corner and my kids have tags, so unless its a MONSTER i will hold out to 2nd Archery Season. However i will miss a few days of 2nd archery season this year. AS i will be in Hawaii.
