Out of the 18 years the SEC has had a Championship game, there has only been a rematch 5 times ('99, '00, '01, '03, '04) with the teams splitting only once (that one split being a Casey Clausen led Vols in '01).
I would if the water temps would cool down! The kings are still out deep. Hey GFY, something I forgot to mention earler. If both OSU and UM are at the top of their divisions going into the last regular season game, you can bet they both will be playing their hardest. A BCS game, if not the national championship game, will be at stake.
I think it's apples to oranges. Here is why. The Big Ten is more top heavy than the SEC is typically. There are usually a lot of good SEC teams where the Big Ten has two superpowers and one power (PSU). We also now only have 12 teams and the SEC has 16(?) So looking at those I don't think it's going to be the same. If you look how many times either OSU or UM has won the division it's just crazy. They historically have dominated. For example OSU I think has won 5 straight titles. That does not happen in the SEC. The SEC just has more competition for the title every year than we do. So therefore you are going to have more of those rematch type situations than the SEC IMO.
I think that is a valid point. History tells us though that a 1 loss big ten team gets into the BCS anyway.
Be prepared for the most boring, conservative offense in the history of all mankind. LSU fans were quite happy that he left. Of course, now we have the idiot Gary Crowton. I'm not sure which one I would rather have...
No the SEC only has 12 teams, I just don't think you'll get the OSU/UM rematch as much as it seems. Just doing a quick look back to see how many times those 2 have finished 1 & 2 in the Big 10 and you have to go back to '03 to find it (under the old format and tie breakers).
But what if they both have 1 loss going into that game, but are both a top their division? It cost one of them a BCS birth, or knocks them out of the NC game. See what I'm saying? If one of them isn't at the top, then they won't play the following game anyway. The underdog in this rivalry loves the opportunity to ruin the other's season, so I think it will still be a highly competitve game no matter how you slice it.
Right, I made that point to Vito earlier if you look. I predicted there would not be a UM/OSU title game before 2015. And after than only every 3 years at most. And if you look that is why I don't agree with this alignment they released yesterday. I'm merely saying that if you are going to set up the whole conference on the basis of a OSU/UM title game why have them play the last game of the season? I believe they should of did it geographically (OSU/UM in the same division) rather than this "trying to guess the future crap" on who is going to be good. The recent history tells us they would not be playing in the title game anyway.
If they both had one loss it would be a great game. No doubt. Then why not have them play in the same division and have them play the last game? I'm just saying. Good game either way.
Because of the opportunity for them to have a rematch, means higher ratings and more money. I feel like I'm repeating myself here.
I'm sorry you are having to keep refering to your previous posts but I got bored with all the Big 10 talk and just skipped over it. So exactly why are you against the current alignment then? It isn't about them being separated because they play every year, it isn't about potential rematch because history doesn't bare out that'll be common, does it have to do with other schools?
Ok I went back and reread your post that started all the discussion. My take on that post is apparently some other rivalries have been pushed aside because of the current alignment. Is this correct?
