Well ladies and gents, you can disregard the second half of that last post! Went in to hang a stand later in the day and season than I normally like to but I thought ahh what the heck. Little did I know as I turned the corner in this bean field I hunt that makes an L shape, there would be 4 shooter bucks, 2-two and a half year olds, 2 yearling bucks, and 3 does standing there feeding. I hadn't even seen a buck in there once this year, probably from lack of scouting and watching. These aren't giant deer but anywhere in the 130-140 range. One of my biggest bucket list items is killing a nice buck in velvet and I feel this could be the year. Can't wait until September 3rd!!!!

Putting a doe down is most important, not only does it give us those points it free you up to focus on that buck of a lifetime.

I'm usually good for a doe. Hopefully that won't change.

So what kind of set up is everyone using?
I'm shooting an Elite Hunter, with a QAD fall away, and MBG ascent ambush single pin. Shooting GT arrows and slick trick/nap killzone broadheads. Shot the killzones last year and had good luck, but really enjoy the simplicity of a fixed head.

As you can see by my signature, I shoot a Prime Centroid, Carbon Express Blue Streaks and most likely 2 blade Rage's. Although I have some Killzones I might give a shot.

I really don't have much to speak of on camera this year, but that has been the trend for the last several season. Right now, this is the only quality buck I have on camera, but he's most likely not getting an arrow this year from me.
[IMG][/IMG]

The last few years, a dominate buck has moved into my hunting area and I have been pretty fortunate to be able to get a crack at them. Last year, this buck moved in mid-October. I had 3 encounters with him during the first rut, but he gave me the slip each time. I got him in early December, he came in really aggressive to my decoy out in the bean field. There were about 10 does feeding in the beans, but when I grunted at him and he saw the decoy, he was toast.

3 years ago, I had this guy move in pretty early in September and he was clearly the dominate buck in the area. He was scent checking for does about 90 yards from the stand in early November. I gave him a couple grunts and he came in on a string and gave me about a 10 yard shot.

If I don't have much show up on my place, I may try and hunt some family land up north of me. These three bucks were taken off that property on opening morning of rifle season last year.
