Nanny....I was actually taken back when I heard an older gentleman call a doe a "nanny," and after reading through all of the replies, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. In a sense, it makes sense, but not nearly enough. Granted, not all does are "does,"; there are some much older and smarter, but it almost makes my blood curl when someone refer to a doe as a "nanny." Perhaps it's just me, although there are many other words/phrases that irritate me such as dirt nap, stud and hitlister. I admit, I am guilty of speaking a few of these in my past, but these words in-particular have become overrated and underrated in my opinion.
I hear these quite a bit and they drive me crazy "That deer read the script" "The (insert broadhead, bow, arrow) did its job"
Ya that's my biggest hate with that saying also. You're watching a hunting show and they say "Smoked'Em" then ask the camera man if it was a good shot or what the shot looked like.
In outdoor writing, I'm bored of people calling something a "monarch." That should be reserved for things that are truly special, rather than every 5x5 whitetail that's walking in the woods.
They don't care, because there are enough quiver sniffers who will defend their actions. Ted Nugent has been pinched twice and his followers still defend the scum bag.
Here are my hated words / sayings #1. Dirt nap - I despise this one #2. Set - this one is reserved for bird hunters, IMO #3. Swamp donkey - need I say more? #4. Soak #5. Wheelhouse #6. Dirt nap. Did I mention this one already
You guys covered most phrases that are overused. The one that bugs me the most is hearing Lee Lakosky say the word "yes" 25,000 times after he kills a buck. I don't know why, but that's really all he says.
I think we even have a team on here with dirt nap in their name....please God, anyone but them to win....
I hate that some of these TV folks think we're stupid (applies to a few of us). They have video of the hunter getting all excited at spotting the dead deer . . . . from the dead deer's point of view! Disingenuous at best. Porn at its worst.
Guess none of it bothers really bothers me. I don't use many of them but am kind of fond of "smoked him" and think that anyone that doesn't like it ............ just ain't smoking them right
