I didn't know bow hunters were so sensitive, just about can't say anything anymore without offending someone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ive been saying"Tank" for a big deer. Im sure that annoys somebody out there and im sure it will annoy me by next season. Never heard let the cameras "soak"....nice. I also dont like , i need to go "run" my cameras. Like they need excercise. Or maybe theyre like a trapline??
Watching many of these hunting shows today a phrase that should be overused is "Damn I suck", "What a bad shot".
I still don't get naming deer. Maybe I don't have enough big deer that I have to name them? When I see a big ole "swamp donkey" (lol) on camera I just say "that's a big deer, if I see him I will shoot him"
I already can't stand watching gun hunting as I much prefer to watch bowhunting, but when I hear a hunter use the term "smoke pole" in place of muzzle loader it makes me cringe. I don't think they know what most people use that term for. In regards to everything else mentioned, although most are overused, the phrases and quips don't bother me that much. I just like watching someone hunt deer with a bow, plain and simple. I'm watching for the kill shot and recovery, not the phrases.
Only reason I use harvest is because that is what it has always been called by the DNR. Probably a political correctness things, but "all harvests must be checked in by 10pm" "report your harvest online" etc. Just kinda stuck with me as an acceptable term. I've been watching a lot of Pursuit/Sportsman channel lately. Can't even watch the shows, I mainly wait until the kill shot and then slow-mo the shot to see the deers reaction at the shot and after impact. It's amazing how long it takes the deer to drop and how fast they do. Usually the lit nock is already half way to the deer before they drop.
Another one I have been hearing quite a bit while watching lately, and some of these are the bigger names. "Unfortunately I hit him in the deadzone, void, etc., the area between the spine and the vitals". Few different terms used. Just say you either hit way too high or the deer went unrecovered. Both happen to everyone, no need to justify it with a falsehood to save face.
You have to wonder if all of these sayings and garbage we hear about are just the hopes of the celebs, etc., to have one stick, market it, and have it plastered on calls, bows, clothing, arrows, etc. Money, is all its about these days. I want them to change the name of the industry to what it really is. Its not the hunting industry, its the hunting film industry. Its all made for entertainment and marketing the companies that pay their way to these ranches, preserves and high dollar hunts. Not to mention all of the equipment and gear. These shows are not informative at all. Its hunting entertainment.
I don't like when someone says they shot a "big" fawn! To them it must justify the fact that they shot a fawn. No need to justify but don't say "big" when describing a fawn kill.
Wow! JZ is on a roll. Shoots a buck and goes from the poor me guy to the guy posting witty zingers on Todd and writing "roast" articles that flame 100% of the industry and the BH staff. I'm loving it JZ. You must have your mojo back or something! Keep it up
