    ....is having FUN

This morning, i got set up early. It was in the 30's, no wind, a PERFECT morning. About 20 minutes after daylight, a coyote got a rabbit about 100 yards west of my stand. What a sound :D 20 minutes later, i had turkeys all over. Cutting, yelping, the whole nine yards. No gobblers presented a shot though. About an hour after light, a young 6 point walked in downwind of me. He cut my trail and got nervous, then bounded off after a few moments. As i was climbing down, i glimpsed another hunter leaving his stand a few hundred yards across the field. It was a great morning. I was hunting the "Unique Situation" funnel stand for the 2nd time this year.

As i was walking out, seeing all the rubs on the edge of the cut beanfield, it struck me as to how much "fun" this whole adventure of hunting is. Everything from the sight of deer, to the ballbusting with good friends, to the ultimate accomplishment of killing that "big" buck.

This is truly a one of a kind sport.

When you get in your mid-30's and have kids, you'll look back at those days you hunted without a care in the world and smile, LOL

I tell myself 15 more years and i am there again:)

I agree and I do have a lot of fun, but like last night I finished up, I have to drive 35 mins to go get my son. I am always getting text by my wife on when and where I need to be after the hunt. Cherish these times you have.

It should always be about "fun"-win or lose. This past weekend, I found myself hunting elk for the last time this year. It was sort of my last ditch effort to bag one of these majestic creatures for myself. I did a solo death march Saturday morning and evening. I never cut a single track in the mountain's fresh blanket of snow. The elk simply got the best of me...I'm ok with that. I had fun hunting with others (I helped four hunters get their first elk) and enjoyed the season's gifts.

I've attached a few photos from this weekend's hunt. How could this be anything but fun?

Germ, words I am now living. Last season, I hunted everyday except 4. This season I have already missed that many. Lining up grandmothers and mother in laws to sit has become the norm at the begining of the hunting week. Just think, I am just starting, I will have longer than you till I am back to the carefree days. It's worth it, don't get me wrong, it's just different. Good luck boys, I am getting ready to leave work and head to a tree.

Everyday except 4 is an accomplishment. I made it out just under 50 times including a week of gun season last year.

OH YEAH, the fun of getting up earlier than working days, the fun of setting up stands in 95* summer days and trimming shooting lanes through briar thickets. The fun of sleeping in a trailer as mice run through the walls.:D The fun of climbing ass kicker hill just to get to my hunting spot, then not seeing a deer and having to make the looong walk out after dark. The fun of all of the upkeep on my property and the tax bill that comes every year. I could go on, but you get the idea.:)

But I wouldn't trade it for anything, just not sure I'd call it fun. A labor of love maybe.

The hunts I have had the most fun on are the ones that I have not harvested an animal. If your not out there having a good time, then it's kind of pointless to head to the woods.

    Real Talk.

I find it hard to believe that anyone can enjoy this more than me, but I know there are some here that love it just as much, or more, as me.

Funny you should mention this Siman. It's been almost a week since I took my buck, and although I have a doe tag to fill, I haven't made it back out since (house things I neglected needed attention...you know, like getting wood stacked and supplied at the house). Up to that point (taking my buck) I only missed three sits the entire season. I miss it already. I'm planning to get out this week or definitely this weekend for turkey as well. I just love being out there.

That is typically how I used to operate. And i suppose still do to an extent. Killed my buck over a week ago and made it out 1 day since. Stayed onthe ground both times and was done after 30 mins when the rains hit saturday morning.

Now starting this weekend will be a whole different ball game. Rut hunting Ohio for a bruiser will light my fire again.

I love the sunrise, sunset and everything in between. Some mornings, when it's very cold and still and you can hear for a mile...well those days make me want to sit forever. I do however need to see and kill deer in order to complete my expierence. Of course I do not have to kill one each trip, or even have the oppertunity to, but if I go a few times without that I get agitated.

    Germ, you just spoke gospel.

Great Post...had the same thoughts the last couple days...most of us are in the "heart" of our seasons right now...enjoy it, have fun...soak it all in!
I'm in the "3 little kids" stage right now - only 6 sits so far this year...but that also keeps the fire burning...I love just getting out!

Will, that video is just great...so Elk hunting is that easy in your parts as well?:)
j/k...I'll be in Estes again next summer - one of my favorite places...

    Good luck to all!
