Hey that's better than I expected, I figured you just walked up there and pushed them in at that tight group.
I pulled cards today, had a ton of bucks that have lost their velvet (hard horned, lol). Crossbow is clean, Splits is clean, several of the un-named bucks are clean, Maverick and Bone-afide are both in the process of shedding, Kicks is clean (the deer big eight the neighbor sent pics of the other day I posted here, kicker on his right G2). The big eight that runs with Crossbow still in velvet as is Gnurley and the wide eight he runs with, didn't see the huge nine this time. Jaws and Shorty are in the process of losing velvet. I'd say we're about 70-75% shed here. I was about to panick because I hadn't seen Bone-afied and was down to the last few pics on the last card. Just as I had given up seeing him this time, there he was in all his splendor, lol. Maverick and Buddy I can't help but think Maverick and Bone-afied are closely related. I've thought that since last year.
Do you guys have any pics of your tree stand setups? I like to see what everybody else is doing. I'm not happy with the stand I hung today, but it will work for now. I need to brush it in the next time I'm out there.
Ha, I don't think I've ever taken a pic of any of my stands, never crossed my mind. That one looks okay. I've got some that look awesome but don't work worth a spit and others that look like you'd get busted every sit but never do and see tons of deer. I've come to the conclusion there's no need to fret over positioning the stupid things, just set them up on a whim and try them out. Deer logic is a funny thing, sometimes the reason behind what they decide to do is a pure mystery. Acorns are dropping here, I guess that explains why I had like 25% of my normal pics this week and was off like 10% last week. Seems early...guess it may be due to this hot and dry stretch we're in. Our bucks have really packed on the weight the last couple of weeks too. I noticed Bone-afied and Crossbow and V-8 all started looking really beefy on this pull, necks are really bloating out.
I take pics of everything! I'll snap pics of stands I find at work and then stand under them to see what the hunter is thinking in that spot. Or I can post it as a WTF???
You guys would laugh at my stands lol. There are either tall enough to make your nose bleed, or like the last one you could almost jump into it without steps up the tree. There were no good trees around close to the alfalfa, so I hung it 9 foot off the ground in a nasty locust tree. I'm pretty sure I lost about 2 quarts of blood before I got all those damn thorns cut off the tree.
I wouldn't use a damn locust tree, I'd buy a tripod stand first or set some poles and build an elevated blind. I'd most likely cut the damned tree down and burn the sob. Most of my stands are 15' ladder stands with just two sections of the ladder used so about 10' tall. We have enough brush there isn't any need for tall stands and I hate shooting out of nose bleed stands. I grew up climbing hedge trees without steps, nails or screw in steps at about 10' or so tall so that's what I'm comfortable with as far as height. We generally have old growth hedge trees every place a good stand should be hung so it's convenient.
I loaded up on 15' ladder stands during the hunting clearance sales. Next year will be ground blinds...
Our season deosnt open until the 1st here in NY but I may miss the first weekend due to school and ill miss the second because of my annual salmon/steelhead fishing trip.
