Im terrible with maps, but I think I would start around the southern 4 on the topo map. Looks like a nice pinch point. Also somewhere by the 1000' mark on the west side. All depending on how easy the entry and exit routes are.
GW3 I am not good at just looking at a map and picking spots. Thermals, neighbors and other factors add in to that plus just time on the land. Checked the food plot last Saturday, pulled cards from the camera's and moved them to spots where I can check them while hunting. Pic of the plot. Sorghum is over waist high and the turnips, radish, winfred and hunter brassicas are pretty much knee high.
If i were you, I would check out that little pinch point by where it says 1000. I would also check out the area where the ridge line meets the small creek by where it says gravel pit...Its possible the bucks will walk the ridge line and then walk the creek. Is there anything planted on the property?
That's a tough property, the points on the hill along the property line should hold buck bedding if there isn't easy human access from the top. The hardest part of the property is the low land must be a mine because it doesn't make sense with the aerial. Is it an old mine now with water in it? When you look at new property best is to think where do deer note encounter human ground scent, where people don't go deer will be.
Definitely check out that spot that says 1000 on the topo, you've also got some saddles on the east side of the property. The aerial photo is hard to see cause I can't zoom in as much as I'd like to really look at it Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Very nice bucks everyone! This is the nicest buck I have on trail cam, he's a 3 yo and would be a stud next year but not sure if I could pass up a shot on him. I have multiple pics of him over the past 2 weeks, he's bedding in our swamp which is good. I have a lot of video over the summer of nicer bucks near some public I'll be hunting I'm real excited about.
With what info is given, I'll have to just fall back on instinct since I don't know what type of food sources are there. My eye keeps being drawn to the bend in the river with the sand bar. It's probably shallow there so a good crossing and a creek ties into that spot. A road from the mine lake crosses that creek. I'd scout that creek and the river bank, they probably use that brushy area as a travel lane to and from the gravel pit area and the fields that are split by that mine lake road. What I see is a large body of timber north of the river and two large bodies of timber on the south side and the only real cover between them all is that creek lined with brush, that area is a funnel. It's a long ways around any other way with that marsh covering the southeast quarter of the property. Speaking of the marsh (lake or whatever), there's an arrow shaped field that extends off the property...the upper point should be good also as an exit from that funneling creek.
Lots of great looking food plots and bucks you guys got to hunt. I'll be hunting public land and carrying an apple in my back pack!
Now all of us need to meet up with these bucks to put them numbers on the board. I have had great pictures the past three years with NO buck killed. I could of shot small bucks but I refuse to take a small buck. You have to let them go to be big!
Yep its been tough for me and really tested my patience over the years, to let smaller bucks go, but I'm finally seeing the results of that. And this year looks even better than last! Can't wait to see what the future holds. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Here are some bucks from last year that never gave me a shot at them. This year the field is corn so I hope they visit more often. MY BIGGEST DEERE EVER SEEN! This guy gave me 5 shots at him through the year! I told him out loud "Go get your grandpa shorty!" Needless to say he did not do it. This guy was the last time I have seen him in this picture so not sure what happened to him. He was on my hit list just because he is a HUGE 4 point!
Sliver, from the looks of your avatar, it looks like you get it done anyway...even on public land. Sounds like you're due for a big score this year! You're right, they have to have a chance to grow the body before they can grow the antlers.
Thanks for the property help guys. Sorry I didn't give you much since aerial is all I've got too. If anyone would like to dig any deeper, I can PM the dnr site and topo/aerial maps that can be enlarged. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I sure hope so Covey! My last buck I killed was an 11 point that I have a match set and two single sheds off of back in 2010! Here he is: This guy I was after for four years and then another hunter claimed him! I have had that happen on two buck and here they are:
