I'm a member of this crowd this season as well! It hit a nice 8pt yesterday. I saw a buck come walking from the thicket I was hunting at 8:35AM. It stopped to nibble on a bush at about 60yrds, but I couldn't tell how big it was. I thought I'd give my "can" call a try to bring him closer. After the 2nd bleat this buck literally comes running right to my location! He skirts my stand out at 22 yrds and I'm on him. I stop him with an errr, and let my shot go. The hit looks nice, right in the lung area. He was slightly quartering away and my shot caught the far side leg/shoulder I believe because my arrow stayed in him. Bummer! I waited 45 mins to come down to look for blood at the POI. The blood didn't start until about 30 yrds, but it was a real good trail for about 40 yrds until it stopped! I fully expected to find this buck in the immediate area. I looked for 2 1/2 hrs with no luck. BUT, at 11:00AM I'm going back with 3 other friends to find this buck! It hurts because I fooled this buck twice ( the can to bring him within range and the errr to stop him) and put what I believe to be a good shot into him, and not find him. I'm hoping 4 sets of eyes will make the difference.
Sounds like a good shot, I'm sure he is dead close to where you were, maybe you walked around him and just couldn't see him
I'm a member. Never did find the doe I shot in Kansas. First animal I shot with a bow...very disappointed about this.
At the rate I've been going the past couple years...I think I'm a lifelong member. I hope you find your buck.
Thanks for the positive thoughts, but after 4 more hours of searching we couldn't find him. We scoured the area out to 300 yrds, but only found a few additional drops of blood. At this point I'm actually starting to think this tough guy could have survived? I hate not knowing.
I'm right there with you also ... I have about 5-6 hrs in searching with no luck ... really frustrating, especially when I know he's down.
I'm a lifetime member of the lost deer and stole deer club. Sucks, but nothing more I can do about it.
