In hunting is what makes it so great.:D After being laid up all last season and missing MOST of archery this year,I've come to realize its actually the little things that I enjoy the most. It's a crappy shot taken with a cheap cell phone. But it's still my favorite part of the day.LOVE those first hints of the sun coming up in the east behind my stand. Got in the stand Monday around 12:30.I hadn't been there an hour when a flock of turkey's showed up in my food plot.Probably 20-25 hens and this years polts.Watched them for close to 2 hours. Around 4:00 a doe and 2 yearling showed up,feeding under 2 big white oaks that's about 15 yards from my stand.Could have taken any one of the 3 if I wanted to. Around 6:30 a spike showed up in the lower end of the plot.He was followed by a young 6 point.Watched them feed and spar, with a HUGE grin on my face.:D I wouldn't come down with deer in the plot after dark.Could hear them bustin acorns. Then even more deer showed up,right under the stand.I could hear em,but it was dark enough that I couldn't see em right under me.Ended up setting for 2 hours AFTER dark And I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy every second of it. Tuesday, watched deer and turkeys from daylight till dark.Even had a red fox do some mousing, which almost unheard of in south east Tennessee.Could have stuck several young does and a small 3 point.Except we've limited ourselves to only taking mature does and bucks with at least 100 inches of antler.Self imposed rule since I'm the one that hunts the property. Wednesday was almost identical to the day before. Was hearing deer before it ever got light enough to see.Watched deer most of the day.Turkeys, several long beards and a sack full of jakes. I think that since my 12 yeard can shoot my crossbow and wants to hunt with it,I'm gonna take him and let him kill one this weekend on the youth hunt.
Sounds like a good day in the woods. Great idea getting your 12 year old started I bet he would love the opportunity to take a deer.
Thanks.Yeah,he's looking forward to killing one with archery equipment. For 12 years old,he's already a pretty accomplished deer hunter. He's taken a few with his rifle and I trust him enough to let him hunt by himself some. He's just not hardly stout enough to draw a vertical bow yet,so I figure this will let him at least get a taste of bowhunting.
Awesome day in the woods. It will only get better with your 12 yr old with you. Those moments are now my favorite.
