I generally do not shoot as much as I should in the off season. Sure i will throw a few arrows down range at 15-20 yards just to keep the muscle memory and form going, but i dont start shooting out to the longer 30-40-50 yard ranges untill a month or so before Archery season starts. Well this year i got a new string on the bow, shot it at the shop, and it was dead on, "Great" I thought to myself "This should be cake" I got home and had to work, let the bow sit for a week or so, and went to shoot. Pretty decent at 20 yards, a scoshe left, but I knew better than to play with my site. I figured, lets see what 35 looks like. Stepping back to the 35 line, My shots were pretty inconsistent and to the left. Now I am not the greatest shot in the world, Nor would i ever claim to be, but I know that i should be hitting about a 3" circle at that range, and i know i should at least be grouping consistently. i shot a few more times, then went to bed wondering. this carried on for about 2 weeks, of me looking over the bow, shooting the same. Today got home and looked at my rest. It appeared just slightly off center, so I pulled my handy dandy micrometers out. My center shot on the rest had moved over about 1/10 of an inch. "hmm I wonder" I thought out loud as i dug around the tool box for some allen keys. Sure enough. back out. this time a bit high and to the right. but in a very tight group. Watched the arrow flight carefully, No kicking, no tailing. "Ok might be on to something here, Phil" Adjusted my site to match the group. noted the hash marks, and shot again. This time dead center a bit to the left. "way to over do it" (i get excited sometimes) result? Success! dead on at 20-35. Felt accomplished, so I stopped for the day, Tomorrow or this afternoon i will dial in the other pins. Moral? Its amazing how something so tiny can affect you so little up close, yet so much only ten yards further. Remember to write down where you have everything, and go over your bow if somethings not right. I am making a mark with a Sharpe on where my rest should be on the rail. Sometimes, Its the little things that will keep you from getting the big dreams taken care of. AsMs Phil
