Well, PA's trout opener kicked off this past Saturday and to say that mother nature was being a..... well, we'll leave that alone.... needless to say, the 40-50 mph winds and pouring rain didn't make for a fun fishing weekend, but it was also one of my favorite. Today the weather was nice, no wind/rain so my fiance and I decided to head to the stream. She always has fun while out fishing, but has never really had that "big hit" while trout fishing to get hooked. She will usually catch a trout or two in the 10"-12" range and be happy with it. Well, today that changed and in the process she put a whoopin on me I managed to get exactly ZERO fish and ZERO bites, she picked up a small brown trout at the first section we fished and really wasn't hoping for much more. As we were fishing I moved up stream a bit and when I did, a couple of guys moved up from downstream and decided it would be "cool" to fish within 3 feet of Tiffany. I think that they wanted the spot and figured that she would be easy to "bump out" of the hole. She kept fishing and eventually I said that we should move upstream. We walked up to a large riffle that usually runs around 2-1/2 feet deep which leads into a large pool that gets more than 10 feet deep. The water was up and a dark green and brown mix. Visability was limited to roughly 20" and the water was very cold. Tiffany had a 2" Rainbow Trout pattern Yo-Zuri pins minnow on, and on her second cast she says "Caught one" to me. I look over and see her reeling in a fish, ask her "is it still on" and she said that "the line went slack". She kept reeling and felt tension again, she said that she thought she got snagged when suddenly her drag started going. A few seconds into her fight I realize that she has a large trout on the line.... I started coaching her on how to fight the fish and just to remain calm and relaxed. After several minutes and several runs from this trout in the deep/fast riffles the trout was in my net. Tiffany finally showed some emotion and her face lit up when she saw the fish. She was almost jumping up and down when she asked me if she could get it mounted. It's defenitly not a giant trout in alot of peoples eyes, but for a stocked PA stream trout its a good one. The female brown trout measured just a hair under 20" long but it was chunky! Here are a couple pics of Tiff with her trout (She was rep'n bowhunting.com on the stream)....
Any day fishing is a good day. Landing trout, walleye, bass while you're out makes it a great day. Having a wife who also enjoys fishing with you......every man's fantasy.
She's not my wife yet, but considering that she loves hunting (even archery), fishing, 4-wheeling, and camping..... I don't have any plans on letting this one go! Her face was priceless when she actually saw the fish today, she was so calm and collected while fighting the fish, when it was in the net everything changed!
Any woman that would clean up and dress up and make up to go fishing with you has to have her head examined. LOL Cool fish, cool deal.... sorry for the skunking, but if anyone had to be skunked....better you than her. I've seen some of your successful pictures of fishing trips past. Great for her and if you ever stop taking her fishing I'm sure there are people waiting for the chance. LOL Nice sweat shirt she's wearing. LOL Justin owes you for the advertisement. LOL
Congrats to her! Beats any ive ever caught. Where were you guys fishing? We stay up by Tionesta for opening weekend every year, we usualy hit up Tionesta, Cooperstown and Salmon. The rain was a ***** this weekend eh?
Thanks guys, she is stilling braggin the fish up. Caleb, we were fishing Little Mahoning Creek in Indiana County, a bunch of my friends headed up north and fished Tionesta, Mill Creek, and Bear Creek, they said it was one of their worst opening weekends ever.
I caught my limit and called it quits, but my cousins brought in around 40 apiece at Tionesta. Not a bad weekend at all, especially compared to the fail that was last year.
Nice job! congrats to her! I just got back in town & saw the thread... I bet I can guess the spot she caught it, even before you told Caleb which creek. The head of the big hole with the trailer?
