Well the last thing I wanted was to get in a fight in Jackson, Mississippi on a Saturday night, specially when there was 3 of them and only 1 of me.
Biggest fear is K or my friends getting hurt while we're out hunting. I worry about Deb because she is even less graceful in the woods than I am. Louie doesn't answer his texts.. and back when K and I were hog hunting we got split up (we were running hogs with dogs), when I caught up with the guide and asked where Kendall was, he said "I don't know, he stabbed himself in the thigh with his broadhead and went off somewhere." I about had a coronary. After hunting with John, I worry about him out there on his property all by himself. I guess I'm a worry wart. Second would be myself getting injured. Third would be shooting a buck that would run off and fall in the river when he died. Fourth would be dealing with weirdos while I'm alone in the woods or back at the truck.
(aside from falling) It's easy. Bears, I hate frigging bears. I have a run in or two a year, lets me know I am alive, but I freaking hate bears.
They're not so bad. Where I live, we have a few bears. Where I hunt, we're becoming over-run with them. It's nothing to encounter a 500lb + bear, daily. I will agree, though- I never want to be anywhere near a big sow with her cubs; grounds for disaster, there !!
I don't know Rob, you'll have to be more specific on the "ex". Running out of gas mid-flight on a float plane with zero water on the horizon would totally blow. Worst case, you're not going to have a good day! I also think it would suck to have a cougar/griz chomp down on the back of your head....
Yea..North-West portion of my State is over-run, man. We only have a bear hunt every 5 years. With those hunts, only the bear in the rural areas get taken out in numbers, because, most bears here live near neighborhoods. Bears are LITERALLY like squirrels in these areas. They go into garages, break into cars, homes and destroy trash cans on a DAILY basis. In our 6-Day bear hunt, even with bears denned up due to the cold, almost 700bears were shot and the hunt was only in less than 1/4 of the State !! We had bears killed between 600 and 700lbs, and 1 bear went over 900lbs, but, he was shot by hunters in PA(although he lived in NJ and would swim back and forth between States). I'll send you links to some of the success photos, if you want ? Jeff, I placed a few links on your "public profile" in the comments area. It's only a few of the bears taken, but, some nice photos. By no means was every bear shot a giant, but, there are some monster bears roaming our State.
I was simply commenting on you saying you saw 500# bears - DAILY. That's pretty amazing, if that's truly what you meant. We have huge bears, here (largest on record was killed in NC). But, I've seen ONE in my life in the woods. They're way more common east and west of where i live. But, even there......seeing one is a kinda big deal. Just amazing to hear stuff like this.
Mine would probably be, getting turned around and lost, coming out of the woods at night. I hunt alone quite often, and if I take a wrong turn, could end up walking for days!
^^ This is too funny. Never heard it called that. I would have probably just cut off my under ware. But the last thing i would want to happen would be something happening to my dad while we are out there in the middle of nowhere. He's gettin old and i doubt thats ever gonna stop him from getting out there.
Id be afraid of getting hung up in your Hair, like them bluegill that got stuck to your back when you were swimming in the lake >>>BAM<<<
This. A distant second, wounding and losing a deer. A close third, spining a deer. Harsh realization: all three are scary possible.
