I'm usually not a huge TV geek, but I have to say so far (2 episodes in) The Last Ship on TNT is pretty good. Pro God, Pro country, Anti-AQ, and anti-Russian. Plus Adam Baldwin has always been my favorite Baldwin. Don't know exactly when TNT decided to go full-on TEOTWAWKI, but it works for me. (Falling Skies, Last Ship, and Dominion. Couple more on the way.)
I saw the first episode and I was impressed. The storyline is good, but what impressed my wife and I was the fact that with a couple of exceptions, their portrayal of the "Tin Can" Navy was fairly accurate. There were three notable exceptions. First, sailors don't normally carry RPG launchers ANYWHERE. Second, the XO would NEVER actually challenge the decision of the CO that way. Third, the "salute" scene on the bridge was cheesy. The CMC would never have to request permission to salute the CO and besides that, in the Navy, salutes aren't rendered indoors with the exception of awards ceremonies and Captains Mast. Other than those three things it was pretty awesome. My wife and I (we're both retired Navy) both got a little pumped up when they went to General Quarters. They even made the announcment over the 1MC correctly for a Navy ship, complete with "proceed up and forward on the starboard side, down and aft on the port side". That won't mean much to anyone who hasn't served on a Navy ship, though. I thought it was a nice touch to add some Navy realism, unlike the movie Battleship. Yeah, let's get a museum underway and fight aliens - it's fueled and armed, after all. Sure, that anchor chain will stop a battleship traveling at flank speed. Oh, and that anchor chain "quick release" made me slap my hand to my forehead.
I enjoyed it. There was some stuff I didnt care for, like how the bad guys cant hit anything but the good guys are always deadeyes, but all in all i liked it. I've been a fan of Adam's since he did firefly. I hate that I recognized the CO from one of my wifes shows. I'll not say the name of that show though for fear of losing my man card.
Pretty good so far I should say, a few these bugged me when the did got shot and the doctor was working on him. It takes someone in the EMS field to see it. Movies and shows rarely get these things right though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yeah, I mean those in the military/LEO/corporate security fields will always be able to nit pick action movies to pieces; but I have to say that overall this show sends and portrays (at least so far) positive pro-American, pro-God messages and values without being too far over the top. Haven't seen these common gripes in Last Ship as of yet, but if I see one more flippin' movie/TV show where a guy's slide clearly locks back on empty (usually after one shot,) then magically is re-chambered and/or continues firing on the next screen shot with no break in gunshot sound effects, I'm going to puke. It is THE most basic element of how semi-auto guns function. There's that one, and then the omni-present sound of shotguns getting pumped to chamber a round on a double barrel break-open action shotgun. How these action consultants continually let this get through editing I'll never know. Rant over. Watch The Last Ship. Carry on...
