He didn't spook or anything when they saw him did he? If not I bet you will see him.

And I am right there with you on the weddings. I have one opening weekend here in IL and one the Friday of gun season up in the Chicago area. It sucks!

My season is so around the corner, that is a heck of a buck man. I agree if he didn't spook you should get another crack at him!

ewwwww. Weather not looking very good for the first week. I can handle the heat but the wind is supposed to be terrible. Looks like the first good day will be next Saturday. I'll take what I can get but really dislike hunting on the weekends on public ground.

I have been throwing around the idea of getting a ground blind, still haven't pulled the trigger on one. That stinks the weather isn't cooperating for ya heckler, but at least the season is underway. It's only gonna get better.

I waited until the holiday season and Bass Pro ran a great sale and I got mine for $120 which is really cheap for that blind.

I've went through a lot of blinds. If you want a blind you can leave out for extended periods of time you should really look at the Rhino XP-1 or a Primos Double Bull. Just FYI, I do understand Rhino is under new management. Their prices have seemed to increase and they no longer appear to be offering the discount codes that have always worked. I recently saw a Double Bull at Rogers for $269.99 w/ free shipping! I thought that was a excellent price! I'd go with the Primos if I had to pay full price for the Rhino.

I would like to let the team know that we are officially on the board. WI opener was this past weekend and I passed on multiple does even though my cameras haven't been very productive. In past years there has been multiple great bucks I'm after and although its very early the potential is down on our farms. Eating 4 tags last season, having MN still to hunt, and the show put on last night by a buck in the field led me to itch that trigger finger. I hope to get pictures of what I call a respectable buck up soon and posted for our team. That said, the only regret I have is that I feel like I cheated the system getting a buck this early. Usually I grind it out and feel rewarded when I get one wile getting one early this year feels like I took a shortcut. He is a long ways from my biggest, but I've never taken a buck early before and overall I shared the experience with a good friend, dad, and a brother which made it all that much more meaningful.

That's awesome! Pic or it didn't happen! :p Way to get the team fired up! Nothing wrong with getting it done early! So many times I have regreted not harversting a animal when I should have! It always a added bonus to be able to share the experience with friends and family!

Congrats! He looks like a stud to me! Looks like you put it right in his boiler. Not much of a track job eh? We have work to do boys! I am going to try and follow you. Maybe I will put one down earlier and then hunt Nebraska!

I am trying to talk myself hunting this property with a south wind. North is Up for reference. Access to this property sucks. There is a access road that runs the length of the property. All the deer from what I have seen in the past bed on private property to the north (red area). The upper field is all corn from what I have seen. The lower field is beans. I'd love to hunt the green circle in the morning. Right now the corn is standing. That means I will have to walk in from the west 3/4 of a mile down the dirt access road. Do you guys think if I got down in there well before daylight I could get in without a lot of deer busting me if there is some wind? The standing corn should provide good cover both visually and audibly except in a couple spots. I'd set up my spot mid day the day before.

Once the field is cut there is no way I will ever be able to get down there without spooking every deer in the corn field. I could optionally hunt it in the evening but I am bound to spook a pile of deer on the way out.

I've also thought about trying the orange circle area in the evening with a SE wind.

Keep in mind this is public ground so I am not to worried about mucking it up as someone else surely will. I am thinking getting down in there early season is in my best interest.

    What are your thoughts?

I think you should go for it, I would do it early like you said and before the field is cut. Looks like a good spot to be in, just go slow and hope for the best. I had a spot in Ohio on public similar. I beat my self up about it and wouldn't hunt it until the wind was perfect in fear of spooking deer entering, one day I finally say F it and went in there very earlier in the morning. It was one of those mornings you sound like a wrecking ball through the woods and nothing seems to be working, I was like well my day is gonna stink and I ain't gonna see a thing. I ended up shooting one of my biggest bucks to date. Ya just never know unless you try it!
