If he lives you get to try and find his sheds and then when/if you find them you get to put a tape on them and see if you were close to the score you guestimated.. :) not to mention added anticipation for the next season!

I agree. Only problem for me is ....................

I'm the worlds worst shed hunter/finder. There is one that I am VERY sure is still alive that I'm dying to find his sheds and see him next year.

That is exactly what I'm trying to do right now. I have 47 pics of a nice 10 pointer that I have guessed to be about 155". I believe that he is living on my land.

I've found 2 sheds in my whole life.

But, I pray the one I was hunting makes/made it through and he's there next year, plus the other 3 shooters I saw. All my corn is still standing so it gives them a great opportunity. Of course, I'll be on him after Christmas day when second season starts.

How much season do you have left Greg? His days may be numbered if you have time..

Last night I pulled cameras and have several pictures of the monster in my woods for the first time since rifle season. Now that I know he lives I'll be shed hunting like I've never done before and can't wait to see what he looks like next year! Any shed hunting tips anyone has are more than welcome, I'm much like NY Bowhunter, don't seem to have much luck with sheds.

I used to suck at shed hunting....then I bought a retriever, wouldnt ya know it that SOB can find bone, only took me 3 weeks of playing fetch with a smaller shed from years prior, after all, bone is bone right? Two things are accomplished...dog gets a good walk, and we get to scout/shed hunt at the same time :)

key word Danno....WAS ;) actually it is pretty easy iffin ya know where to look...taking the dog just makes it more rewarding for him.
As I have never shed hunted in the agricultural areas, I would assume that the sheds would be easier to spot, if dropped near/on the fields and edges.

Troy I have several target bucks for my shed finding goal this year that Im hoping are still in the area, and made it through. I cant wait to get out there and start looking. I have some numbers in my head of those bucks and it would be nice to compare with a set of sheds from them. I know this thread is about NOT killing your target buck and finding the sheds later, but I thought you might be interested any way in these numbers, if you take it back one year earlier. Here are my 09 bucks numbers compared to his sheds from last year.

Here are two that i hope DONT get away yet... the joys of having a cam in the tree with you...

first one we've dubbed "double double" second we dubbed "crabclaw"

double double was out at 50yds earlier in the season.. havent seen him since

and crabclaw we've had at 10.. as you can see.. it was a double set... camera guy and hunter... my buddy (on the harp) grunted to stop him ... bolted outta his life... but like i told him rather have him alive to hunt another day than taking a walking shot and shoot him in the hind quarter... and totally blow the stand..

he's seen him twice since out of that same stand

the pictures dont show crabclaw all that well... 18 pts we think and just JUNK on his left side.. his sheds from last year have bladed brows with what looks to be a hand at the top... weirdest thing

I want to put some cams out and see if the two big guys made it through the orange army. Shed hunting? Wish I was even half decent at it.

well i will admit i am not good at shed hunting, i have found a few at fence crossings over the years,

one thing i would like to know is why do some deer shed early had a couple bucks come by me last year at the end of dec here in mo that already dropped there horns, but many years ago i seen a buck with a large group of does in march and still had his rack , he was a large rack buck in a hunting preserve. anyone?
