Lost this girl yesterday, she was with me for 16.5 years. She had a long and good life. Spoiled rotten at home, slept in our bed every night, a ton of camping trips to smell all the smells and chase chipmunks and squirrels. A very feisty and strong personality in a good way.
I know we gave her a great life but it is sure tough when you lose them.

It is kinda funny I was not a small dog fan at all, until my wife brought them home they grow on you. SOB I am getting old and probably not another dog in my future, will still get to watch the grand dog though.

Bad dog thread. So A.J. is a toy destroyer. He literally ate a full size kong in minutes when when we first got him. We have to be very careful what we get him.
So the dogs were given a box of toys last night. Late and tired we didn't check them thoroughly.

He literally ate a red plastic toy while we slept last night. A big toy. When I got home from a chick feed run the houses downstairs was covered in puke with little jagged pieces of plastic in it. So I have been on A.J. watch all day. No food allowed bone broth only. 5 plastic pukes later he finally dropped a duce with red plastic but no blood. I'm trying to avoid an obstruction. So far so good.
Another no hunt day...of course good weather ends today. Pray he stays good and clears his system.

We are now up to 11 plastic fill pukes. To say this was bad is an understatement. We found out it was a kong treat toy. Apparently he thought the entire toy was the treat.

Now I posted the last one, because it is smallest and we are 24 hrs+ out from him eating it. The others were fist sized. All he's had is liquid to help facilitate the expulsion and minimize possible internal damage.

So no plastic piles in the last 10hrs. 12 in total. On a mash texture of food and broth. Now just on poo patrol to make sure he's cleared his system with out injury.
In the mean time scout tore up AJ's rear leg again in rough play. He's one foot out the door......

    A. J. is all clear now no more plastic. I made him take a slow walk and he used all 4. Any pace above slow he went 3 legged. So it's muscle/ ligament strain. Time to fix.
Man it has been a stressful scarey weekend. Honest to pete, hubby had me up every few hours checking him. At one point it was 1am with him in his undies, me a robe outside with a flashlight on poo patrol. The man LOVES THAT DOG to pieces.

Sorry to hear of your loss. We had to have ours put down due to paralysis; December and March.

    Thanks John T. and OND.
Me and the family still miss her a lot and bring her up in conversation most every day. She was just one of those "dog of a lifetime" type of dogs. Fabulous and fun personality that set her apart from other pets.

It's been a while since I checked in on this thread. It has been such a good read with so many beautiful dogs past and present!

The OG who I made this about just had his 7th birthday last week, time has absolutely flown with him. He still is that puppy but moves a little slower now and enjoys longer naps. Hoping for 7 more with, Ruckus.

The boys, they reminded me of how great they actually are. 9:30 Last night they both went crazy!
Mind you we live in the country and nieghbors have been robbed ,one " home aloned." 300 foot off of a dark country road in the woods. I went out on the porch with A.J and he let out the nastiest growl bark I've ever heard from him. Then went down to vehicals and up into the hedgerow. All the hair on his back standing up. Called him back then let Scout out. He went on alert with a low growl to the end of porch. Then came back and stood at my side hair up and low growling in a protection stance.
Do not know what set them off but if it were a person, pretty sure they won't be back.

This pup has been so fun to watch this year. Turns 3 in a month or so, and in his second full year he is getting so good. Points are great, discipline is great. His finesse working the wind is something I've not seen in this young of pup. Still working on finding down birds, but he swung downwind on a bird that 3 other dogs and 3 or 4 guys had already been searching and swooped right in on it in a thick grass amt. Was so neat to see! If he is already doing this well, the development the next couple of years is going to be spectacular. Think we might head west to get on some sharp tails and quail next fall. [IMG]

Nothing like a good bird dog. My uncle had a German short hair that started to point grasshoppers when only a few months old. Never tried grasshhoppers as recipes were very scarce.
