Pita is getting weird, she follows me around and wants to be petted constantly, she does not always eat her breakfast. She is 14 expecting her fade in the future. I told the wife I am getting one last dog, a hunting dog it will be a lab. I know I told her after the 3 were gone no more dogs so we can travel but there are too many pheasants up here to ignore.
I took A.J. out while I shoveled the drive. Poor guys been cooped up due to gun season a long time. I made it to across street and the mail box and he was zooming the food plot. Next thing I know he has his." Scrap yard dog " bark. His stance was all business and he is looking toward the green house and garden. Next thing I know. He hurdles over the culvert ditch to my side. He stands, every muscle tight, at my side growling and barking at the field. He was definitely in protect mom mode. I've never seen this before. I could not see what he had seen . I finally gave him the release protect command and he was off. Though stopped mid field and stood his ground between me and ??. I have to say that made me feel rather good considering today's world. I'm going out today and look for tracks to see what had him on alert. I know we have bear and big coyotes.
All I found on our walk in that area were big yote and fox tracks. Fresh morning deer. Then on rest of walk 3 fresh single deer, buck I believe, and a group of little tracks. Also mom and her 2 fawn tracks. Lots of fox and a few coyote. To my surprise a lot of the bucks gut pile remained...dang it! That was a issue between AJ and myself...lol I won
A J. Is loving end of season. Look quite content in his new walking vest. Enjoying his freedom to run.
I am doing the research looking for a good lab male pheasant dog, he will be named rupe, short for ruprecht. oh and he has to be able to retrieve ducks
My sons hound is a blue tick catahoula and some other hound cross, he likes to beller, he loves coming to the country he can run. I want to bring him for a gravel road drive and let him out when we see roosters.
I do like hounds but could never own one, that or a malamute/ Alaskan husky. Howling dogs just set my nerves on end. My grandfather hunted with beagles. Great dogs when their muzzles were shut! A.J. is the noisiest dog I've ever had. He barks when playing. I hate that!. Never a howl just very loud barking when we don't play fast enough for him. Barks when we are done but he's not. When I'm late with his dinner. Yes honest to God he can tell time to the minute. Ps. His herding heritage is stronger than any of the registered German shepherds I've raised over the years. He herds both of us in and out of the house.
Larry is pretty good about it most of the time, he has a collar as much as I dislike the idea of a remote robo dog it sure makes it easy.
Pita has me concerned she wants to be held, she tolorated it before for things like nail trimmings but now she wants, insists on holding her. Feels like a long good bye.
Freaking Larry, he is hyper and needs to run to be sane. Yesterday he was out in the front yard and saw his buddy Jersey out on the lake, she was on the plowed road on the ice. Larry jumped off the 8' drop to the ice and bolted thru the deep snow to get to her. They run and play makes you tired watching them. My son got him from a breeder that raises bear hunting hounds in WI, larry was a runt but he still has the energy.
Soon to be 15. She had surgery a couple years ago on a nerve in her neck bc she gagging so much. But now her back legs are getting real weak because of that same surgery. Sweetest dog we have ever had, CC.
My little man is a year old and full of energy. He's still really good - but gets whiney if I don't move enough. Every morning before I can start my work day we play fetch. It's just routine now. The best part of my job is bringing them with me.
My wife brought our youngest dog Gert in to get spayed a couple weeks back. I am at my wits end with her I have tried several things and she is not getting better. She growls at the other dogs, she prefers to stay in the dog room away from the other dogs. I have tried holding her petting her and soothing her and approaching the other dogs and she growls, I have sat her next to another dog and petted them both and stopped petting her when she growls. She is 10 years old hard to believe getting spayed made her crazy. My wife wants her gone is she does not quit, I can't do that.
