Well, another new one is on his way. Get him the end of January/first of February. He will be trained for search and rescue to assist with our local fire departments.
Well as of last week my family just gained a extra member. Early Christmas gift to my daughters. His name is Lincoln. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
A story about the late Betty White. Putting an entire production set on pause to save some dogs. RIP Ms. White. "Lawrence recalled White's loving nature with a story about how she once arrived an hour late to the set because she saved a pair of golden retrievers, 'because that’s what [she] would do. 'This was before cell phones, and everybody was beside themselves because Betty was never late,' she said. 'And she walks in, in a dither, and says, "I’m so sorry, but I was driving here and these two golden retrievers come running out into the intersection and they’re obviously lost. I had to pull over and get them."'
it appears that my Giant Schnauzer's chemo has quit working and his tumors are back with a vengeance and bigger than ever. Likely has less than 3 months. Sucks because he's otherwise completely healthy and he's just a damn good dog.
He was his normal arsehole self yesterday and this AM, I got home from work and he greeted me and then I got a phone call which I took in the office so as not to be bothered by him and his equally arsehole sister. After the call, Mrs. Noodles (who worked from home today) says hey, I think you need to check on your dog, he's been acting weird since this afternoon. So I realize he is laying on his living room bed (yes, he has a living room bed, and a bedroom bed) just looking at me, I walk over and reach for his face and he pulls away. Not normal. I reach again and he pulls away in the same direction. Long story short, he doesn't want me to touch his nose. So I start scratching the back of his head and slowly work my way forward- he's got a HUGE mass under his eye in his beard just above his mouth. Feel the other side and there is a smaller one. So I figure it must be a lymph node that's gone cancerous and maybe is pressing on his whisker nerves? I dunno. He's miserable. This is a dog that I literally can't hurt without actually injuring him, if that makes sense. Huge pain tolerance. Anyway, there's a lot more to it, but suffice to say he's in a lot of pain and discomfort and has a pretty bad fever. I am hoping it's just an absess, I have a bunch of leftover antibiotics from when he got Lymes a couple months back, so I double dosed him with those. He is eating special treats and stuff, but not his dog food and he also didn't want to drink. You can tell it hurts him to open his mouth very far. If he's not better by tomorrow AM, I am taking him to the vet. If it is the tumor pressing on nerves or whatever....gonna have to make The Decision. This was him just last night when I was eating venison medallions for dinner
Heart breaking dnoodles. Hope the Decision doesn't have to be made just yet and you get some more time with him.
They didn't get him in until about 10 mins ago. They made me do curbside b/c they're freaking Covidiots here
dog update- Other than being immunosuppressed as a result of the chemo, Vet does not think it's related to the cancer. Vet's unsure what's causing the masses in his jowls. There are no lymph nodes or salivary glands in those areas. But he thinks it's probably what's causing the snout pain, since there's so many nerves there. He's got some kind of infection and a fever of 105 which is really high. He also had a split rear toe nail that went deep into the nail bed and was really swollen (found that on my own this AM) which is why he was lame and didn't want to put any weight on it. They removed the rest of the nail and cleaned that out. Sent us home with antibiotics, anti inflammatories, and pain killers. Stopped at McDs on the way home and bought him a 20 15 piece McNuggets. He scarfed those up, and when I let him out in the yard he was much less rickety looking than earlier today. He's got a regularly scheduled chemo treatment on Monday, they do a full blood panel prior to the chemo and the oncologist will also aspirate and do a biopsy on the mass in his jowls. So, as it looks now he basically had a few mild things go wrong all at once, while at the same time he has advanced lymphoma. Mrs. Noodles has started calling him "Make a Wish".
I hope everything starts going better for him. Maybe you'll find out more on Monday. Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
aside from the chicken nuggets, I also made him a salmon filet in the air fryer and then cut that up and mixed it into his kibble. He ate the whole bowl, which is the first time he ate all day other than salami treats. (Great cheap dog treat- human grade deli/cracker salami packs they sell all the time for like $3.99/lb. The little inch/inch a half discs. They last for weeks in the fridge, are cheaper than 'actual' dog treats, and have way less fillers than most dog treats)
^^^ That's brilliant! I never thought of that. Both of my dogs love sausage/beefstick types of food. Good tip.
He just spent about 5 straight minutes taking these And rearranging them into this And now he's SNORING.
