I guess it’s national dog day. So here’s Barley watching THP. Mabel being Mabel And Forrest doing Forrest things
OND - I went to check out the food plot and had the dog sit/stay while I walked back. It was probably ten minutes and here trots the dog....told the husband, guess I wont leave him outside when I go to the treestand.
Sit means sit, LOL! Back to training! I am only messing with ya though, everyone has different standards for their dogs. But I saw you mentioned he's your "duck dog" and steadiness is very important when hunting, not only for the hunt and when working birds, but for his own safety! Good looking pup, best of luck with him and enjoy watching him work! There is nothing better!
That made me laugh. My dogs live to be outside and in the woods. Last year I had my wife put my dogs in the house so I could walk out into the woods and get in one of my stands for an evening hunt. She was to wait half an hour before letting them back out. I knew the female dog would stay by my wife but my male dog might not. I was hoping he'd forgotten that I'd left. Nope! I'd just gotten settled in and here he comes looking for me. I didn't say a thing hoping he would go back. Oh no, he circled around and found my trail and finally spotted me up in my blind. My hunt was over and two best friends walked the trail back home.
He was a duck dog - but a severe hip dysplasia diagnosis got him out of that two years ago. His training is great for my husband, not so much me. I let him get away with things as I know his days are limited. But on his early days - definitely agree 100%! Greg - at least you didn't get upset he ruined that hunt. Our days are so short when it comes to our best four-legged friends.
Almost went into the rant thread, almost. Went to bed about 15 minutes ago. Got to that point where a pillow shift was needed. Started to get comfortable and felt something jabbing the back of my neck. Damn treats the dog just had to ***** and moan about desesrving after coming inside were hidden under my pillow. 2 of them, he bitched for one, hid it and then came back and bitched for another one. Put them back in the pouch si they don't dry out, so I get the last laugh in a sense. Little effer....
Old men watching the little one, who might think she's part dog by the way she acts... Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
Natural instinct kicked in for my beagle and he found a baby bunny nest. Not just a baby bunny- but like new just born baby bunnies. He killed two - a third is scratched up and a fourth seemed unscathed. He dug about a foot deep hole...there was no leaving them until (in hopes of) Mom coming back. I got them on a heat pack covered in a towel and sent them to my aunts farm where she just had a batch of babies born. Ugh. I hope they pull through. Now why a Mamma would have them right next to a stair case where a dogs scent is alll over is beyond me....but still. I felt awful.
I know what you mean. My black mouth cur is a killer. It happens so fast you can't do anything about it. One day we were walking down a trail in my woods when he went after something I'm the heavy vegetation on the edge of the trail. When he pulled his head back out I saw bird legs and feet sticking out of his mouth. I yelled "drop it" super loud and he did. It was a baby robin about half grown. I told my dog we don't hurt babies and the bird hopped off lucky to be alive. I I wasn't there it would have been a goner. Sent from my SM-G981U using Tapatalk
Giant Schnauzers are supposed to be very light if at all shedding dogs, and hypo allergenic. In the almost 9 years I have had him, my Giant has shed enough hair to stuff 1000 mattresses, if there was a market for dog hair mattresses that make dog allergic people itch like crazy that is. Because he was also not hypo allergenic as my niece and nephew would break out in hives everytime they come over. (Which was kinda nice, because my niece and nephew would avoid coming over which means my SiL avoided coming over; but I digress...) He's also got a sensitive stomach so I always stuck to salmon-based minimal ingredient food, tried adding fish oil, egg yokes, all kinds of things to no avail. Anyway, I couldn't get his normal food last month, so I bought the same brand (Taste of the Wild) duck-based version. It messed his stomach up pretty bad (posted in the Rant thread how he crapped all over the house a couple times) but that passed and lo and behold - no more shedding! Like almost none at all! Over 8 years I've been dealing with sweeping up giant hairballs every other day...fixed in 2 weeks after switching food.
just found multiple golf-ball sized tumors in his neck, up by where our lymph nodes are. Taking him to the vet first thing Monday. Not feeling good about this.
thanks. hoping it's lipomas. But there's a ****on of them and they came out of nowhere. Can't tell if they hurt or not b/c he's got a ridiculous pain tolerance. I squeezed them a bit and he didn't flinch, but I didn't want to rupture one. He's been kind of weird yawning a lot lately, craning his neck back. I went to scratch him and felt them. I'll pay whatever to have them removed if need be. But damn, if he goes...I will be a effing wreck. What Causes Lipomas In Dogs? Dogs get lipomas for a variety of reasons, including one very frustrating cause, as you will see in the list below: Hereditary: Fatty tumors are more common in some breeds, such as Cocker Spaniels, Labrador Retrievers, Doberman Pinchers, Weimaraners, Schnauzers, and even mixed breeds.
