If you have ever fished of hunted around Sangchris Lake State Park by Springfield and Rochester, IL...maybe you have caught the sight of these "Ghosts" View attachment 15546

I have seen them on the shore while fishing, but never from the stand.

They are not albinos, but rather a genetic strain of white or mostly white whitetail. It is against the law to take one of these.

Hard to tell if they're albino or not, the one behind the normal doe looks like pink ears, nose, and eyes which would be ablino but they're to far away. Either way this is one rare sight and I would LOVE to see a white deer in person. Very cool pic

Now that I look at the picture again, I think one is an albino and the other is a white whitetail. I have read about both at Lake Sangchris State Park.

That is really cool. I have never heard of a white-whitetail before.

    Thanks for sharing.

    from the Illinois DNR page

"and there are several unique albino deer living in the area", on my fishing "Hot Spot" maps it calls them a genetic strain of white whitetails, not albino?

I am guessing it is a little of both. Can these albino/whites have bucks that reproduce?

yes, I bow hunt there, but I have not seen one while hunting. But, put in a boat and go fishing and there they are. They are cool to see, like seeing a ghost!

My buddy works for the IDNR and he just took over managment for Lake Sangchris State Park

Yea the bucks can reproduce.... as cool as they are, they are considered white trash! Most white deer have a genetic defect making their genes inferior so "most" of the time the bucks have small racks. White deer or even piebald deer in my neck of the woods get eliminated immediatly so that they dont breed since they have inferior traits
