Because sometimes you can't control what annoys you. It just does. Even if it doesn't make any sense.

I'm shallow too. I drive a 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500 crew cab with a Duramax diesel. I only have it for the 3 times a year I need to pull a big trailer. 95% of the time the bed is empty or only has my dog in it.

It makes me feel good to know that my wife and I annoy the **** out of people. :tu:

i have a full sized pick-up that really only gets "used" for hunting season, ice fishing, snowmobiling and camping... so i guess alot but on a normal basis its just me and my backpack. guess i like to sit up high too!

Yes, they are inaccurate. If your generalizations are correct 1/10 times, which I think is high, I would consider them inaccurate.

Is Wisconsin that weird of a place?

I drive a 2004 Suburban, my wife drives a 2007 Suburban...my only complaint is that they no longer make anything bigger? (wish they'd bring back the Excursions).
We have 4 kids - so that's where it all started with buying the first one - size and safety foremost, but they also fit our lifestyle. Mini-van will not work - nowhere near enough room and no 4 wheel drive...we spend our weekends outdoors and we pack half the house when we leave...10 inches of snow?...we're still heading down dirt roads - minivan owners have to stay home.

This past hunting season was my first having the '04 all to myself, drove a Jeep Wrangler for 14+ years...I can't say how nice a suburban is for keeping all my gear, stands, whatever locked in car ready to go at moments notice. I have a small trailer for hauling - will never need to own a truck.
Also - took suburban last fall with 4 guys, packed enclosed trailer to CO elk hunting...cannot beat the ride. Dropped trailer and took it up Jeep trails to 12,000 ft...you should have seen the looks I was getting from guys with lifted Jeeps - especially as we went around a lifted Taucoma that was stuck in middle of road.

Huge fan of suburbans...only thing I plan to own unless they come out with something bigger (only downside is that I buy them 3-4 years old...new ones cost more than my first house)...oh, and I improved my gas mileage over the Jeep Wrangler...

Love having my wife and 4 kids in a suburban as well - impact air bags all the way around, 4x4, stabilitrack...and hitting a deer is no problem, not the case in small cars. I wish everyone else drove small cars...makes me feel safer in mine:)

People on a hunting forum needing to own trucks and suv's is a shocker.

Keep in mind. Most people don't hunt or fish or get in the outdoors like people on this forum.

    Sounds like you use yours.

I think this is an even more interesting topic.
I know so many people that own trucks that will NEVER haul anything in them. They just like owing a truck and Vito's got me looking at all the trucks on the road and it amazing, their all empty beds.

Agreed! Wasn't trying prove you wrong - just giving a shout out that my life is better now owning a suburban.
I'm on the same page with you actually - I don't like that many own them just as a "status symbol"...it doesn't bother me, but I find myself asking, why do so many people own and pay the extra for 4-wheel drive and I know they never use it, and I'm sure some don't even know what that means or how to turn it on.

But...they can take the depreciation hit, and I'll buy it lightly used in 3 years...works for me:)

I think this is the part I am having trouble communicating. I'm not saying people should not be able to do this or even that they are wrong for doing so. But it just annoys me. I guess I'm just retarded that's all.

Really? I think a lot more people get in the outdoors then you believe. Getting into the outdoors is not limited to hunting or fishing, there are tons of outdoor activities.

Maybe they have an SUV because they like to go to the beach and stuff a bunch of beach toys in there for the kids.
Maybe they like biking and want to haul their bikes around.
Maybe they like to boat or jet ski and pull their boats with it.
Maybe.............the list could go on and on.

As much **** as people have today, its no wonder they need to have big SUVs to haul it all around.

How do you know when you see an empty truck driving down the road that they never use it or don't have a need for it? I guess I need to start hauling around a bed full of firewood just to prove to people that I need my truck and use the bed.

My point was people posting that they own and use an suv on a hunting forum means nothing to this topic. Clearly everyone on this forum is getting into the outdoors and many need a truck/suv.

Again smaller suv's like the 4 runner would satisfy 99% of people I belive. They buy the big boys for two reasons. Safety and status. My guess is most buy the big boy due to the latter.

I know I know. Don't worry about it and to each is own. I'm trying. :-)

I am actually in the market for a larger SUV. Having 5 kids makes it real tough to get all of us around. Currently we have to take 2 vehicles if we are all going somewhere together. Wish it was like the old days when we could just ride around in the bed of a pickup!

Stereotype. One that probably isn't true.

My point is that you really have no idea what the lady driving next to you uses her Suburban for and that more people probably need them then you think.
