This guy is awesome. There is a boulder in western Iowa that weighs about 60 tons that this guy paints each year with a thank you to those who have served.

Artist: Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II - The Freedom Rock®

This year's rock, which was just unveiled overwhelms me for some reason. Instead of posting someone else's photographs, I think I'll take a drive this afternoon.

I drove to the Freedom Rock, took mosaics of each side, stopped by the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery and took more photos and saluted the approximately 400 headstones one at a time, but when I got to the walls for the cremains, it was one salute per wall. While I was doing so, I noticed someone taking a photograph of me and it irritated me. Then I drove home and took Aleve because I think I will need it. Here are the mosaics from the Freedom Rock. Each mosaic has 22 - 28 photographs in it.

Here are the photographs from the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery. I only got photos of a few of the many memorials because for some reason my eyes kept watering making hard to focus the camera.

The monument closest to the camera lists the names of Iowans who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.

About the time I was leaving and feeling completely drained, I saw this as I walked past and had to smile. I stopped to thank him.

    Then, I saw this one:

It was still a long day, but it was nice to visit the place where I will spend my retirement.
