Man I havent launched an arrow for 3 weeks. I had good spot picked out this morning until the winds started to really shift for the worse. I remember telling myself, "trust your set up". Literally a minute later after reinforcing to myself to stick it out, two does came walking by on a mission to bed down at 845am. I got up and got ready. I stopped the lead doe who was walking with a fawn with a bleet. She stopped behind a tree, with from right behind her armpit and forward exposed. I knew this would be my only shot because I was only about 5 feet above her in the tree due to the hill and she was staring right through me. I released right on the sweet spot and....I could have sworn I saw the nock of my arrow sticking right in the sweetspot but there she stood, not moving...huh? She then bound forward 5 steps and by the time she stopped I had nocked another arrow and was ready to shoot again....she concentrated and waited for the thermals to let her know danger was near then she bolted....crap! I had hit one inch to the left and hit a tree...goodness gracious. I sat there for 10 minutes or so really dejected and honestly thought I don't think I can keep missing and keep hunting with the recurve. That was my second shot and second miss of the year. I sat there and really thought hard. I then grabbed that bow and really stared at it having a battle between my ego and the essence of why I hunt. The magic of the recurve won. Back in the drivers seat tomorrow with the trad bow in hand. I came home and shot up to 20 yards and I was on and hitting true. My shot was good this morning but I tried to shave it too close and was literally 1 inch to the left wide.
I can't believe how close that was. On the picture from the side it looks like its just barely in the tree
Wow, you were kidding when you said you missed by an inch! Keep with it (as I know you will). You don't know how much I can relate to what you're feeling, bud. Trust me.
DANG! You were so close bro, but I have missed 3 shots this year, just like that. Super close, and yet no cigar. I'm going out tonight, and goodluck tommorrow brotha.
She was like this but a few inches more forward with her heart exposed behind the shoulder. I will keep at Steve, not quitting. Deinhardt..good luck man! MGH--I am dejected but I have realized in the deer hunting game, things can turn around in a split second.
Brett, Things can be tough sometimes. You are not judged as a man or hunter when things are going good. You are judged when there is adversity. How will YOU respond? (I already know the answer) Keep doing the little things right and your time will come.
Dang what a close one! I guess you werent' kidding when you said an inch. Stick with it, the fun is just begining.
Brett .... good memories ... you'll get her ... it was fun sharing our morning misfortunes ... misery loves company!
This probably won't make you feel better... but maybe.. Here was a 'trick shot' I managed to pull off about four years ago. There was a buck immediately on the other side of that sapling. A sapling all by it's lonesome. I showed him my amazing archery skills by drillling that sapling and leaving the buck unscathed. (but really confused... 'cause there was a pretty loud crack when I hit it.) A lesser archer would have merely hit the deer, which of course, is a much bigger target. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
This will just make it that much more special when you do connect with a deer. Good luck on your next sit
Thanks guys so much. I just needed to get it off my chest as I was hurting a bit this morning. My plans have changed so I am able to get in an afternoon hunt tomorrow, which is good. I shot about 30+ shots a minute ago and was hitting good, hitting real good. All I can do is try again. Christine, we are now blood brothers (sisters/brothers???). lol
LOl, Looks like the Bowtech commercial. Funny stuff. I always aim for the bigger trees. The last one I hit was at least 8 inch in diameter.
