The next two days are nasty with 60 below wind chills, 15 - 30 mph winds, 15 below for a high Saturday and 25 below for Sunday.

I am not sure if I am just too stubborn for my own good or it is the pig headed German in me ( 7/8s German - 1/8 Danish ( me loves pastries !!!! :busted: ) )... but I just can't throw the towel in with two days left.

I've been brain storming all night trying to think of a way of hunting without it killing me or at the very least, freezing something off.

Britney's blind has been destroyed by the wind and snow... so that is out. I don't have another blind.

What I do have at my disposal is the dryer shack and my new Mr. Heater Buddy propane heater. The dryer shack is a little building at the main farm where I work. We keep our grain moisture testing equipment and other stuff in it. It is beside the grain dryer and grain bins. The deer come into the farm a bit before dark and mill around the dryer, grain bins and trees all night.

The dryer shack also has a nice sliding window which would perfect for shooting a bow out of.

To get the deer in front of the window for a shot... I would have to bait. I have never hunted over bait in my life. Hell I have never hunted out of a blind or heated shack for that matter. The whole thing kind of feels like cheating to me but it is the only option other then sitting in the house pouting. I have nothing against anyone who does any of the above... I've just never had any desire to do it myself. Pretty sure that is the pig headed German in me.

The odds of getting a buck out of the deal is probably slim to none anyways. I am not going to shot a doe. Need every one of those alive to drop fawns this spring.

This is going to be different for me. Maybe borrow the boss's iPad so I can surf the net while I wait. Hey... maybe I can get the wife to make some pastries so I've got something to snack on.

All's I know is... I am not letting the weather beat me.

I've never wished for somebody other than me or my son to kill a deer more than you if you go out in that!:hail: Good luck.

An interesting tidbit,I hunt ducks in your great state every fall(when its warmer:lol:) and about 2-3 years ago when we were there we met a grad student that was doing a deer study. He went out during the spring and caught fawns and put radio tracking equipment on them. He said that during the winter when it was snowy and cold is wasn't unusual for them to move 30-40 miles to wintering areas when it got cold! He said that there would be huge amounts of deer in one small area. Find one of those spots and you'll be covered up with deer!
You probably already know this but I was amazed at how far they would travel.

My wife's mom is on the way to the hospital in the ambulance to Devils lake. Hoping nothing too serious. We are kind of in limbo here. If it is serious they will send her to Grand Forks. We are waiting to see which direction to go. The roads are iced over so it isn't going to be pretty either way.

Looking like I maybe done after all.

Prayers sent Tim. Be careful if you go hunting Tim. Getting a deer isnt worth putting yourself in danger.
