No luck this past Tuesday. Hopefully I'll be heading out sometime this week. I did at least get to try out my new carry straps for the first time. I have to say, aside from my bow and camo clothes, this is probably the best purchase I've made for hunting: surplus Molle II frame and straps set. I attached the straps directly to my stand and with the kidney belt, about 80% of the weight goes on my hips instead of back and shoulder / neck. It is amazing how much easier it is to carry my stand, steps and other gear I pack onto my stand. Before, my shoulders would actually turn red after a day carrying this stuff but no more. Picked this up for $40 on ebay last winter. They didn't have any olive green so desert camo is what I was able to get. These were either completely unused / repacked or brand new. Great deal.
Hey guys sorry for the long streak of inactivity. High school swim is now over so I'll be able to be in the stand more often from here until the end of the seadon
Taking the day of tomorrow. Cold front coming and temperatures are dropping by 25°. I've had 5 different bucks coming past one of my stands. Two are shooters. Fingers crossed I hit it right.
In the stand for the first time since my elk trip to Colorado. I'm a little rusty...almost got to my stand but had to turn the car around when I realized I forgot my safety harness. A younger, dumber me would have gone in without it but I'm not that stupid anymore. Beautiful, brisk morning in Ohio. Just had a herd of squirrels go by. Hoping to see some rut activity soon!
I got out yesterday morning and conditions were pretty awesome. The 8 pt I have on camera showed up at 30 yards but never cleared out of the green briars so I had to sit and watch him for 20 minutes until he walked out of sight. I was so tempted to try and force a shot through that mess. I rough scored him at 140 inches. I think I was shaking for an hour after he walked off. Back at it Saturday!!!
I have 2 days left at work and then my 10 day rutcation begins. While temps are not ideal in the 60's they are a night and day difference to what has been. I hope to be posting a couple contest entries soon. Good luck everyone, the time to benin the woods is here, hope everyone gets to get out.
I haven't been this close to killing a buck of this caliber ever. Within the last two weeks I captured videos of the giant I am chasing at 3 separate camera locations. One video of him cruising in complete daylight too! Another giant showed up on camera and I have several 2.5 to 3.5 yo bucks that I will not hesitate on. With the colder weather coming Thursday-Friday I have a legit shot at killing this deer. Last day of work on the 9th and then off until the 21st. Stay safe and good luck guys!!!
Here is a couple of screen grabs of the of #2 buck. He broke a brow tine off somewhere in between the first and second video I have of him. No daylight activity on camera of him yet. My #1 buck is much further away from the camera in recent videos and makes for a poor screen shot.
Checked my camera last weekend while I was hunting and had this dude show up a couple weeks ago. Temps are gonna drop this weekend so maybe I'll finally have Alittle luck. I have seen two little bucks and 4 does the whole season.
I find baseball boring as hell to watch Lol. However those last few innings were incredible to watch. What a way to end the series. Had a basket 6 pt fly by me at full sprint this morning. No idea why he was running. But I couldn't stop him for a shot, it happened so quick.
My buddy shot the big 8 I had at 30 yds on Monday. He broke off his g3 between Monday and Friday. Really nice deer. Weighed 202 after field dressing.
Had 3 coyotes come in on me this morning after a rattling sequence...odd I thought. Only two left the scene.
Can't get enough of those massive bases brother! Congrats! Forget to take a second picture though so it doesn't count lol!!!
