Not trying to keep u out of the woods but I would set up a camera to make sure they aren't moving through that strip of woods before daylight and you bump them on the way in and out. It happened to me last year. Sent from my SCH-S968C using Tapatalk
I believe youre talking about the tree row in the NE corner? If so, that's a good tip. Maybe I'll do that on my way in tomorrow afternoon and then move over to the spot south of the snowmobile trail. This is why I enjoy this forum. I hadn't considered that.
That's exactly where I'm talkin about. Lol I read they will use those tree lines to keep themselves out of sight while moving. I actually saw a video of a buck that would zig zag in and out and eat as he did. Into the field to eat and back out into the woods. They also say they use them to wind does because they get a great field of view and they can bed down in there as well. Sent from my SCH-S968C using Tapatalk
Going out tomorrow morning for opening day, cannot wait. Supposed to be a relatively cold night (could dip to the 30's) so hopefully that will get them moving early! I generally only hunt evenings during the early season based on trail cam pics and the deer movement on our property, but with the temp dipping like it is predicted, I can't pass it up. I will keep you all updated, and good luck JaminWI tomorrow as well!
Weather is nicer here but started to rain so I slept in. Oh well. Good luck to the rest of y'all out there!
Saw a Doe and a fawn from a distance but nothing else. Pretty chilly morning, surprised there wasn't more movement. But then again, we rarely get morning movement anyway. Going back out this afternoon after a nap haha.
Hopefully you have good luck after that nap! I was hanging one of my stands and while half way up the tree a doe starts walking towards me. I get down and grab my 300blackout pistol. (Doe is 30 yards away and has seen me) hide behind a tree and line up a shot. She keeps walking towards me and at 20 yards she was done! Wasn't Bow but not bad for an afternoon where I wasn't planning to actually shoot one.
Slow night for me. 12 deer. Only 1 mature deer, a doe, but not in range. Oh well. Nice night to be out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
12 deer is a slow night? Ha-ha Sucks the deed wasn't done but time out in the stand is some of the best time. Get to enjoy the great outdoors that God has given us and time to unwind.
Only saw 3 tonight. A doe, a spike, and a nice 2 1/2 year old 10 pointer that I passed on. If it can make it another year or two, it will be a good one. Back at it tomorrow night!
Did u set the camera on that wood line? Where did u end up hunting? Sent from my SCH-S968C using Tapatalk
To be honest I almost never play the wind because it swirls so much and they don't travel a consistent path in my area. I just concentrate hard on scent control and use ever calm on my boots and tag a few trees with it near my stand
