This. I don't have a problem with them having that many kids, although I often wonder how they have time to conceive with that many other people in the house.

If they want to have thirty kids, have at it. To the argument there are too many people in this world, I disagree completely. there are not to many people in this world, but rather too many irresponsible people that don't know how to take care of themselves or what God has given them (earth).

Personally I dont see the point in it. Maybe in their case the are self supporting and responsible. However their are way to many cases of similar circumstances were the tax payers end up footing the billing in the end. In any event the whole thing offends my sensibility.

I present this graph as nothing more than "it's interesting".

As long as they are happy and healthy, its nobody's business how many kids they have.

Those 19 kids are more loved, have better manners than most families with two kids. It's not a about how many kids you have that makes you a good parent. Parenting is about sacerfice IMO. The more you sacrifice for your children , the better parent you will become.

Germ, I don't think anyone is going to claim that they are not doing parenting right. They are doing a wonderful job. And honestly, a job I could never of done.

But no matter how well they treat their kids. The question really is if having 19 (almost 20) kids in the 21st century is responsible. Are they being selfish by doing by that? A lot of people claim they are.

Bull hockey. The number does not make it irresponsible. In fact, with that many the older kids have to chip in and learn to help the younger ones...therein becoming more responsible. I don't know who these people are.... but a number doesn't make them bad Teaching them welfare, or "Gimme Programs", or how not to work etc etc etc .... would be bad. This doesn't look like a welfare family to me. They want 40... go for it.

They are about as anti-welfare or anti-gimme as people come. They do things for themselves and don't rely on anyone but themselves. They really are wonderful people and I wish more families were like them.

Whitney Houston had one kid and a ton more resources to raise her, and she is one f-up kid. How many of the 19 of the duggars have issues? I do think it's because their faith why some have issues with them. For sure not you, but if they were welfare family with 19 kids we would not hear diddle about them, but because they have a strong belief in God, they are perceived as nutty.

Whitney and a lot of well to do entertainer types believe in just give them money and everything will be hokey doorey! When kids are given a direction, activities, and a belief within a stable home or a path of guidance then they seem to do well.

I've got a video of a family of 5 that hit's Food Lion at the first of the month with $2000 dollars in federal assistance a month. With the middle child of 16 pregnant now. Hard to focus....It's a shame to see them load that brand new van up with their goods and drive off till next month.

The Duggars do is on them and always on them....

Wow Tony you need to read closer. I never said they were irresponsible. I said many people do think it is irresponsible. Just because someone plays devil’s advocate (being me) doesn't mean they believe something. My position is that I see both sides of the this argument but commend them for doing things the right way. Which is precisely why I posted this. I don't post the easy questions. I post the ones that you can discuss and debate from both sides. The difficult questions in my mind. Hopefully it makes people and me think a little bit. So please read closer and don’t put words in my mouth. K? :)

Okay let me be clear here, I'm just making points from the other side.

I do believe there are too many humans in the world. IMO, the world would be a much better place with fewer people. That may sound harsh but I do believe that. Not that I feel we should be limiting the quantity of kids people can have like China. But the people of this planet are putting quite a strain on our natural resources on earth. For example, the amount of food they use and garbage they create is massive. Within their right? Yes. Selfish? Probably a stretch. Something I would be concerned about if I had that many kids? You bet.

Probably my biggest point is that there are many many many children that are looking for good homes that could be adopted. Perhaps from other countries. Taking on those children instead of bringing so many new lives into this world would make sense to me.

For what it’s worth. A big reason my wife and I stopped at two children because we feel that any more children was more than we wanted to contribute to this world's overpopulation.
