Your added speculation has nothing to do with any of the previous posts ... I don't believe we are going to ruin the world because the Duggars have 19 children .... so why add some new "what if" to this thread???
So you don't care if the US or world becomes overpopulated to a point that future generations will have food and water wars?
Well the world population is steadily increasing, and this Earth has a definite finite amount of resources, so one would assume that eventually, something is going to need to be done.
It was a moral and ethical obligation.....I was born in Wisconsin. Your view may not be popular today, but in a few hundred years, the opposite may be true.
We can debate it all we want, but here are some facts that show we're wasting our breath on this one: 1. Even IF the USA put limitations on how many children people can have, it would be practically impossible to enforce; and 2. There is no way to force other countries to cut their birth rates. We now return you to your regularly scheduled arguing.
I’ll bet you didn’t think that terrorists could fly planes into skyscrapers, kill thousands of people and change life as we know it for every American either. I know I didn’t. Did you ever conclude that what you “think” may not always be right? It is something I am concered about and I "think" you should be as well. Fletch said it pretty good.
Because a poster here was belittled for expressing his view that perhaps overpopulation could one day become a concern. There was no new "what if" added to this thread. It was already deeply ingrained, but ignored.
I don't know if I would be able to get the point of legislating population control. The point of this thread is to discuss that perhaps a family should make the self-imposed decision not to have any more kids for the reasons stated. Our family did just that after two kids.
This is where my faith comes into play, Hook ... I believe that Christ will come back and fix everything ... call me a fool ... but it is what all Bible believers believe ... I believe this world will melt with a fervent heat and be recreated with no sin .... but that's me ... Fletch, I see no reason to answer your question as it has nothing to do with anything the op started on this thread .. start a new thread with your what if deal and I will answer on that one ...
To debate Tony, you need to have a conversation. It can't be one-sided (ie, I only play by my rules). Reminds me of politics... Jumping to conclusions like you have here (Fletch must believe in government regulation of childbirth and is a communist because he's asking you about the morality of possible overpopulation) is ridiculous. It's like saying that I'm not a follower of Christ because I do not openly hate my family (Luke 14:26). You are taking his words out of context. You can debate a topic without believing in it, or in this case portions of it.
I never said Fletch was a communist nor did I say be would legislate birth control ... I asked him and HE said he would Fitz ... get your facts straight
Tony do you recycle any of your garbage? Okay, to save time I am going to assume you do. Why do you recycle? Because it makes the earth we live on a better place and protects it right? Everything you say regarding god is going to occur in my beliefs as well. But we still have an obligation to do what is right for the earth today and in the future based on the information we have. I can accept your argument that you don't believe the world is ever going to be overpopulated. What I can't accept is God is going to "fix everything" someday as a reason to not worry about this. Especially since nobody has any idea when Christ will return. So say all you want you don't think the world will be overpopulated but don't use god “fixing everything someday” as the reason to ignore it.
It has everything to do with you voicing an opinion on global population control in this thread, which seems to be related to the original post. So, fair game. If you really want me to start an entire new thread I will, but that seems a bit trivial. So, one more time I will ask here; IF you had even the slightest suspicion that future generations would suffer horribly due to lack of resources, would you in any way feel a moral or ethical obligation to curb our reproduction? Please dont make me start another thread, and if I do, please dont continue to circle the question and refuse to answer it. I ask this with the utmost of respect.
No I would NOT want it legislated .... but I would definitely work out my family plans with my wife personally ...
