This is only my first year bow hunting and in practice I've broken a nock off one arrow and now cut the vane off another. Feels a lot better then losing an arrow by missing the target though! I'm no expert shot by any means, I'm just happy to get my group closing up. Anyone else have this "problem"?
I only shoot one broad head at a time. I try and make it as close to the hunt as possible, and I've only ever gotten one shot at a deer.
I have yet to see a downside to practicing with broadheads, that's all I shoot. I don't hunt with field points, so I don't practice with them. Always shoot at a different spot.
practice with your field points to get you mechanics correct and consistent. then before you go hunting shoot a broadhead to see how they fly . usually there is a little difference. the better the broadhead the closer to field point accuracy they are .
I agree. Aim for different spots. Also, I definitely shoot way less during the season as I am only hunting, not shooting in a league or anything. I'll shoot one arrow at a time. And then go retrieve it and take my time for about half a dozen shots a few times a week to make sure I'm in practice and everything is working right. I go with my broadheads vs field points. I feel like I'm tuned equally (nearly) but also want to practice with what I'll be shooting.
I don't practice very often with broad heads except to make sure they fly straight. They will never be as sharp as when you take them out of the box and re-sharpening or replacing blades isn't the most cost effective for me. But ya, don't shoot the same spot or shoot them one at a time.
