Saturday eve I was able to sneak out for a short mile or so hike with the second love of my life.. me dog.. California.

Less than 15 minutes into it.. she came up with her first ever find.. a pair of antlers connected onto this unlucky buck. Probably was hit by a car... Cali found it in a thick fencerow about 300 yards off a road.

Now if I can just get her to stop eating deer poop..

Sure is.. I think when you would have met her she was about 15 pounds.

    She's a solid 60ish now.

And she LOVES everytime dad comes home... always smelling me to find out what I have found for her and/or where I've been without her.

    She's cool.

That is great! I have two Whipits and they are just not made for the cold and one day will have my companion for the woods. I also have the problem of them when we go out to the woods with eating deer poop! HE HE HA HA!

Congrats to her on her first big find !!

Our yellow lab is more interested in the living things then sheds. She will run right over them. LOL The guy that had her before us... used her for pheasant hunting and she loved it. She wears herself out running in front of both of us in a day. You can't get her to walk until she is pooped out. She thinks we are pheasant hunting when we go shedhunting or even when Barbie and I just go for a walk. When Tyler and I split up shed hunting... she gets disgusted running in front of one of us after awhile... runs back to the other guy only to get disgusted and run back to the other guy. You can see it in her face when she finds a pheasant and gives you the look... shoot it dammit !!!! LOL Poor dog probably thinks we are idiots.

It is too bad as she points and everything once she does find a pheasant.

    Awesome Duke.

I've been taking my dog out a lot and she hasn't found a single one. Like yours, she's good at finding deer poop. :)

Anybody tried training their dogs to find sheds? I just bought a German Shorthaired Pointer, and im planning on training him soon to find sheds. Just wondering if anyone has had any successful training strategies.
