Thanks Tim. Literally just watched a 5 point chasing a doe in circles head down while I'm riding the course. I brought clothes to hunt but we have an inch of rain and big wind coming.

Ok I'm all setup for this evening. It's a warm 66 but since these strong winds just died down, hopefully deer will feel more comfortable moving.

Question for you guys, I'm hunting Saturday-Tuesday 3 hours from home and am taking my 12 year old son with to hopefully stick his first deer. The bucks are starting to search and it should be pretty good hunting, if he doesn't get one this weekend would it be out of line to keep him out of school a couple days to get him a chance at one? I really want him to have a shot at something, and of course if a nice one comes by out of his range I'll have to do the dirty work lol. The wife hasn't opposed it yet but I haven't pushed it too much either, what ya think? And I saw some snow on the ground this morning too.

Frog I think it's ok to do that. I missed school a few days in November back in the day. As long as his grades are fine I don't see an issue.

He's doing pretty good, I only hunted with my dad one time when I was younger and my kid is super excited to go. I've only taken him out once this year because I've been gone hunting all over the country, next year I'm sticking closer to home to hunt more with him. I'm gonna video the whole time I'm hunting too.

Every year after I reached the age where I could hunt here in WI my parents allowed me to take the entire week of gun deer season off. It was pretty much what everybody did in my school though. We always had to go to the office and get a paper that we had to have all of our teachers write down what we needed to make up over the season. Since our season occurs during thanksgiving break at school it was only 3 days that I would take off that nobody else had off.

As long as my grades were good I could go.

My truck is mostly packed up, I will be heading to the cabin tomorrow morning.

I have been wanting to get a handheld gps for a long time, mainly for ice fishing and going out to Colorado next year. Been looking at a Garmin 64st, anybody else use a GPS or have this Garmin?

I have a garmin Oregon 550t I believe, it had maps and contours preloaded on it that I wanted for elk hunting in Colorado. Takes a bit to get your location and it really eats up batteries too. It's alright but you can you apps on your phone for almost everything that the gps does.

Hey guys, hope all is going well! Sorry been super busy with work and school but have been getting out lately when I can. Haven't seen much but it's going to start picking up here pretty soon. And to answer the question would it be out of line to take you kid out of school for a couple days to hunt, in my opinion it would not be a problem as long as grades are good. Have him ask the teachers for a "take home packet" of the stuff he will be missing so he doesn't fall behind. Make him do the work every night after hunting. I would have loved for my dad to do this for me but my father doesn't hunt. You have to make the memories now so you guys can look back and remember about all the times growing up. Best of luck to you all seems like I got a lot of catching up to do. Good luck!

The cool part is the quarter is just starting next week so he won't have much for homework other then some reading. My buddy is letting me stay at their hunting cabin too, can't get any better than that.

I will be heading to the cabin shortly. Unfortunately I will be a little late to get a morning hunt in this morning. But I plan to do grouse scouting hunt with my German shorthair and maybe find another spot to hunt this weekend. Good luck everybody I will keep you posted

Last time I stood the stand I am in I shot a buck. Let's hope I see something. The wind is perfect

Good spot. Here's a little throwback I was talking with a friend who shot this buck before I hunted the property. Biggest 8 I may have ever seen. [IMG]

It was 2010. Surprisingly most of the bucks around here turn into 10 pointers tall but not wide. Still some good motivation. I'm hunting Sunday because it's one of the few legal ones to hunt.
