    Two weeks left for me.

Time to get the gear laundered and treated with permethrin...

I haven't seen any yet that are hard horned but I know a guy that has. I love this time of year! I've got a few more things to do & a few more things to buy but I'm about ready. I have 3 cameras to check. Haven't checked 2 of them since July. My season doesn't start til October 1st either.

I killed a buck a in 2013 on I think was Nov 8 or 9th. He was one of 7 bucks that came by that Bow hunt, all chasing a hot doe.He had been ear tagged by SIUC ( small metal ear tag ) D buck Nov 9 2013 40.jpg and radio collared when he was a button buck. The collar had already fallen off of him before I killed him. Southern Illinois University Carbondale had ear tagged and radio collared him over 32 miles( 32 miles in a straight line as the crow flies ) from where I killed him at. So I know he didnt trevel in a stright line so in reality he traveled farther than 32 miles. It was kinda neat they gave me the GPS cord of where they had tagged him. They said my buck had traveled the 2nd farthest of the bucks that they had tagged & collared that were reported. They were getting a 85% disbursement rate on the deer they were tagging & collaring. Turned out he wasnt a 3.5 yr old like I thought he was only 2.5. The student that was conducting the study was very suprised my buck had a rack the size he did cause he said " my buck was an extremely small button buck for the time of year they captured him " Deb Hunting Nov 9 2013 248.jpg

That's an awesome story! I don't live to far from siuc. My brother went to school there. I live about 25 minutes away in DuQuion. I'm from Sesser though. Small world.

Cool. I'd suspect he got pushed out (by more mature deer) of much of the area between where he was tagged and where you harvested him...

It would be interesting to me, if the tracking info had the observation dates to help confirm my hypothesis...

Yes he does, I agree.... Getting a deer like that is probably more rare than taking a banded duck. Thanks for sharing lady forge!

Yep Small world. My buck was radio collared & Ear Tagged on Army Corp Enginer land at Lake Shellbyville and I killed him in Piatt County near Monticello at the U of I Robert Allerton Park.

Ya I still wish I had asked them the cordinates of where his radio collar had fallen off... that would of been interesting to know and to see the movements of him when he was still wearing the radio collar.

    Hi All

just roughed in a new mini food plot in the woods and would start to plant some of the seed but looks like another week or so of 90 plus with no rain.Hope a hot summer will be a cold fall. Seed store had left over cereal grain rye and gave me 4 bags for free spread it out last night with the urea in the clover patch. Acorns are looking good this year. Good luck wl704 go get em :ninja:
