    Crazy story.

Glad you are OK..........I often wonder about these kinds of things because it seems so unreal to me that anyone would be that careless with a dangerous weapon.

I don't believe in hunting "accidents"........careless negligence at best.

Dan - thanks for sharing your story with is. I'm glad you made it out okay and that you're still here and able to share an experience like that with us. I can only imagine what you must have gone through. It's stories like this that should make us all truly thankful for what we have each and every day. The tide can turn pretty fast, even when you're out doing what you love to do most in life.

On a small sidenote - whereabouts were you at up there? My grandparents lived in Trego nearly my entire life and now my dad owns a house up in there right on the Namekagon River. Mike and I did a little bowhunting up there two seasons ago, mostly over near the Springbrook area. I'm assuming you're somewhere in that general area since you mentioned Spooner was 12 miles away.

Justin, we have a cabin about 1/2 hour west of Spooner on a small lake, Mallard Lake. At the time, I was hunting where Hwy H crosses the Yellow River 3.5 miles north of Hwy 70.

I have not been back to the spot since, but would love to hunt there again sometime. It's a good sized chunk of public land that is now only open to foot travel. My brother in law and a couple of his buddies hunt there and say the hunting has gotten very good.

Glad you made it bro, tribal matter lol that means nothing will be done. In fact a good chance they don't even know about it. Thats a different world on tribal lands. Now that I think of it, it would only be a tribal matter if you were in a reservation though. Wow. Anyway Glad you are here and reminding us all how things can happen when you least expect it.

Wow Dan that is amazing thanks for sharing. I don't know if I would be able to go back out in the woods after that without a splash of blaze orange anyway.

What a story Dan!! Glad it turned out like it did for yourself.

Something similar happened to my Dad when He was in 11th grade. Him and a friend where quail hunting in the woods one morning and my Dad's friends jumped a quail and didn't notice where my Dad was standing about 10 ft. from him. He shot him with a 12 gauge loaded with birdshot. It blew threw his right arm and into his shoulder and upper chest. Thankfully they were close to their vehicle and his friend was able to take him to the hospital. He missed all but 1 month of his 11th grade year. He stayed in the hospital for a long time before going into to rehab. They removed all of the pellets out of is chest and shoulder but to this day there are still pellets in his arm. You can still see all the pellets holes that were scattered around the main entry wound. He always had problems throwing the baseball or football for an extended period of time. Just another unlucky story with a lucky ending.....I thankful his story turned out the way it deed or I would not be typing this either.....

HOLY ****!! (sorry for the profanity mods)

Dan, thats a heck of a story and thank you for sharing. I can't imagine the thoughts going through your mind at that time and what still goes through your mind to this day. Thank God you're OK and able to share.

Look at it this way. You can now tell everyone someone tried to shoot you and they just can't get rid of ya!

All jokes aside, glad you're here and able to share it with us and it definitely is a valuable lesson for each everyone who reads your post. Life can be over in an instant and we should all live it to its fullest.

Praise God that you are okay brother. I'm new around here, and I'd hate to hear about anyone getting shot. God was looking out for you my friend, and I know you will never forget that.

Time heals all wounds, and you have been given a second chance that many people will never be lucky enough to get. My dads co-worker died when the newbie hunter he took out (who was obviously inexperienced with rifles) handed him up a rifle and his finger pulled the trigger on a loaded rifle. They were climbing into a deer stand when the rifle went off and I was told he died immediately. Granted all new hunters have lots to learn, but this fellow didn't get a second chance.. you have one bud.

Praise God Bro, and I'm glad to hear your okay.
