Well folks, I have waited for this day 13+ years, ever since my wife told me I was going to be a Father! The boy and I just got back from his 1st day of Hunter Ed class! He had a blast, I think he had his hand raised trying to answer every question the instructors were asking. Finally the head guy said, your to easy, you know all the answers, lets try someone else! Dominic turned around and looked at me smiling from ear to ear! Needless to say I'm a pretty proud papa!

I came home from spring break last friday, walked in the house and asked my little sister Emma what she was doing...she said...

Thanks guys, I tell ya, it was awesome! We get to the class and he starts to walk off, I say where you going, he said I'm going to sit in the front row!!!!!!!

The best part is, they gave the students a book on orientation day 2 weeks ago, they 4 chapters to read and homework. The instructors graded the books, handed them back to the Students. Dominic looks his over and was all bummed he got a couple wrong. He says to me, Dad these aren't wrong. I'm like are you sure??? Then he's like YES I'm sure Dad. I said then go ask the instructor. He comes back with a huge smile and says " Told ya the weren't wrong!!!!!!!!"

Not only are you lucky to have a son enjoy it, but you look like you put in the time with him. That makes this tread so much more gratifying. Congrats, from the bottom of my heart. Hope I'm that lucky some day.

Funny story about hunter ed. My dad took both me and a good friend to the 4 day class sessions. On the 4th day, there is a 100 question MC test and a shooting session with .22 rifles to pass the safety exam. My friend wasn't very outdoorsy, but wanted to do anything I did...and he was pretty timid. We were both passing the class fine, both felt we did well on the exam, and I came out of the rifle session with a pass. Dad reported to me I had gotten a 100% on the Multiple Choice part, and Kevin got a 97%...but told me to play along. Kevin came out, grinning that he passed the rifle session by 1 point, but dad told him he missed the exam by 1 question. The look on his face was priceless. He was devastated. It was wrong on many levels Im sure.

We told him once back at the truck the real score and he was more than relieved. That was like 9 years ago, and me and kevin STILL laugh about the look on his face when he found out he "failed". He hunted for about a year and decided it wasn't his thing, he is more of a sports fanatic...we are still good friends though.

Congrats to your son, I am sure you are proud...but knowing his position, I bet he is just as proud himself! My orange card was a badge of honor when I got it in the mail!

Awesome there Joe! I know the feeling. My boy went thru the same thing last yr. It was his first trip to "deer camp" up north. He said he liked being around the campfire at night, listening to all the stories. This will be his first yr out bowhunting. That's great that you & your son will be able to spend time together. I think it really sets the bonding thing to a new level. My boy & I just went out shed hunting Sunday. There's something about being in the woods, and having him look at sign and think about this yr's hunt. Congrats my friend.

Good report Joe. As a Hunter Ed instructor myself I can say that one of the biggest rewards I get from teaching is the enthusiasm I see in the kids... and parents. Nice work on your involvement with your son too, it makes a big difference in his commitment as well. During the last class I led, I had a single mom bring her son to class. Now she was absolutely an 'inside' girl with no hunting or outdoor experience whatsoever. By graduation and field day, I had 'em both shooting bows and .22's and talking about putting in for their first hunt. It's heartwarming!
