I’ve found that every bow shop I've spent a little bit of time in seems to have the same type of guy in it. Again, I just find it interesting. Not turning my nose up or think my crap doesn’t stink. Just an observation I’ve made. It's the guy who just hangs out. He doesn't shoot his own bow often it seems. He spends many hours just chatting and watching people shoot. He gives advice freely even when he is not asked. He loves fast bows. He loves talking talking about his "buddy". He loves stating specifications of bows. He typically doesn’t know a great deal about tuning. He informs other people which bow they "have to have" because it is the smoothest shooting, fastest bow ever. You never see him buy anything, although I’m sure he does because otherwise the owner would kick him out. Anyone know a “chatty bow shop guy”?
I cant say Iv'e seen this guy, but I'm sure he's there. I'm usually in and out, get what I came for and roll.
That is why I love to order most everything archery related online. I can't stand the chatty know it all deer hunter guy either.
The key is to not take it to heart... I get sick of "that guy" as well. But - just keep shooting, and bring in a few pics of your huge bucks. That will show him!
It's not that I find him extremely annoying. I just found that no matter what bow shot I visit they all seem to have that same type of guy hanging out. Heck....sometimes when you are waiting for to waited on he is fun to chat with.
For a minute, I thought you were talking about me. I do go to my shop quite a bit and end up not shooting as much as I end up shooting the bull with the owners. I don't offer others advice unless asked or the shop owner has a guy bring in a Bowtech. Then they usually point them in my direction for help. But yeah, I know the exact type you're talking about. We have a couple at our shop actually. Usually the guy wearing all Matthews gear, shooting the latest Matthews bow because its the absolute best bow made and will tell everyone to buy that exact bow because nothing else comes close. And, this guy shoots A LOT of bows (Matthews bows that is) and has a lot of experience to compare. Oh, and the Matthews accessories are all the best too.
Yeah I know what you mean. There's about 3 or 4 guys at the local pro shop just like that. They'll show up when it opens, take a seat on the bench, talk and cut up, drink coffee and tell some of the tallest I've ever heard. I'm talking about get your rubber boots on cause it's about to roll over tall. They're nice guys though, fun to talk with. Catch them in the middle of one of their tales and they'll start pausing and studdering trying to cover their tracks. I don't think they even own a bow, guess they just like to hang out and talk.
I havent been to the local pro shop in awhile, but when I first open this tread, I thought of of this guy right away. Too funny.
Haha. I've seen 45124135 of THOSE guys !! There is no real "chatty" guy that meets the criteria the original post contains, in my shop. Most everyone is helpful, and, willing to hold a conversation. I talk with everyone, at my local shop; haven't come across a guy like this, yet. Sure, there are a few guys that talk about the"latest and greatest" bow, and, why you HAVE to HAVE it. There are the guys that talk only about speed, and, preach about it; I quickly inform them that I really couldn't possibly care less about speed . I love my local archery shop. All of the guys that work at the bow counter are knowledgeable, and, very willing to assist with anything; I'd say we all have a friendly relationship. I've learned a lot from these guys, and, I ask a lot of questions pertaining to archery AND hunting. There is an indoor range, at this shop, so, a lot of guys, myself included, are there almost daily, doing some spot shooting, on the nights that there is not a league. Rarely have I encountered a "know it all" there, and, honestly, I wouldn't pay him any mind, anyway...
Yep! He's definitely an expert, been at it less than 10 years knows everything there is to know, and Never buys anything! Keeps the place interesting anyway! Dan
"Gun Shop Guy" takes the cake though. Everytime I walk into the local shop, I feel like I've just crashed a militia meeting. 4 or 5 guys standing there, not shopping, staring at you while you shop, just waiting for you to say something so that they can take what you say and add thier political 2 cents into the subject. It's always a laugh.
