Good job Aaron..................glad someone is keeping us on the boards. I passed a heck load of small deer the last three weeks not wanting to shoot a momma with fawns and vis versa. I tell Tony earier this week that the babies are old enough to take care of themselves and all bets are off now. I am shooting a doe. Now in my last four sits I havent even seen a darn deer..................................I SUCK !!!! Dave
I'll be honest with you Dave... I didn't talk about the shot in my thread... because it really made me question taking fawns... I spined her... and that was the worst sound and feeling I've ever experienced... and what was worse Her momma just stood there helplessly ... I felt terrible, I know it's part of hunting sometimes... but maybe next time, I'll wait for Momma to come in, or not take the shot at all... IDK... I just felt really bad after that one... I emptied my quiver trying to make her stop.
Aaron, the third deer I took three years ago was a spine shot. Nothing wrong with my equipment, I just made a bad shot. I was able to shoot her again right through the heart. I know that sound they make and the feeling I had when she toppled over and started whining. I too felt terrible at the time and it still bothers me when I think about it from time to time. It is a part of hunting buddy, good shots, bad shots etc etc. You quickly put her down and that is what counts. Move on and forget about it bro. As far as taking fawns, I have no problem with it at all. The only reason I have not is that I noticed every single mature doe had atleast one fawn or twins with them. I saw no need to be in a rush. Problem now is, "that I stated above" now that I decided to take a deer "mature doe, Fawn", I am not seeing any deer at all. Dave
So I went out today and finally put my last stand up in the swamp. It was a pain but there is a lot of deer sign moving around the back side of the property in and out of the swamp, lots of giant buck droppings all over the place. One casualty to report, my 15 year old. Told him not to step on a certain log and well, he did, fell in the swamp water head first. He jumped up quickly soaking wet and said "really Dad, now I smell like a giant swamp rat, this is not fun." Sorry but I could not help but laugh. Hunting tomm. morning and afternoon, let's hope I atleast see something. Dave
Awesome Job Aaron. Good luck to everybody else going out this following week. Headed out of town this weekend and the following my season is going to start. I have every weekend in November off and the Whole Thanksgiving week off which seems to be the best in my area.
Congrats again Aaron! I got out again this morning but didn't see much, one small buck very close and a doe and fawns too far out. Hopefully things pick up soon, it's been really slow the last couple weeks.
Work is crazy this week, so I doubt I'll have time to hunt. I'm going to try and switch cameras around tonight. I'm still waiting to hear confirmation on that new property still, hopefully I'll be able to look it over this weekend.
