.... while bowhunting for rabbits with about 20 or so tradgangers yesterday my boy scored on a nice set of sheds. We sent him in a pine thicket to chase some rabbits out for us. Since there were deer beds all over around there I tell him to keep his eyes open for sheds, you never know! He goes in, with in 5 minutes he says dad I found some, he drags this out.....

That is pretty cool that the spine stayed together like that.

Whenever I run across a dead deer in the woods, either the bones are spread around in a 20 foot circle or there it is basically the whole carcass laying there.

Shame you had to find it with the skull below the antlers, but a nice find nonetheless.....

Cool find, do you think you are going to do anything special with it Joe?

If you could get a few nice boards and stain them or a few pieces of old barnwood, then mount the entire mess on top of the board. I think that would look kinda neat.

Maybe put some grass or twigs around it like the taxidermist do when they are doing their life-like full body or pedestal mounts. Kinda recreate an, as it was, type of display for it.

Dave, I was thinking about trying to do something like that! Sure would take a lot of work, The spine is frozen solid right now thats why it still together, I'm thinking if I boil it the spine is going to be in pieces! I really like the way the bottom jaw bone is wide open, kinda smirking like the "Joker".

The boy is pretty much frozen solid in this pic, we were out stomping around for rabbits since 8:00am and this was taken at sunset with the temp about -2*....

Wow... I have never found one decomposed down to bones with the head still intact with the spine like that ever.... Great find!

I would keep it just like that, I wouldn't split it.

    Congrats to your boy
