I'm never really bored during any time of the year...there is more to life than just the hunting season For me June & July are about barbecues, beer, pontoons, fishing, bon fires, outdoor concerts, a little golf, yard games, etc I start preparing for the hunting season in August but also scout in the Spring
I enjoy the summer months about as much as the fall/winter. August/September is by far the best time of the year as most big game archery seasons kick off, but I honestly enjoy lake season as much as sitting in a treestand for whitetails anymore. Iced down coolers, 15-20 of your best friends, ski boat, two pontoons, and a couple jet skis all tied up in a bay somewhere on the lake is about as good as it gets. As much as I love hunting season, I love having a couple months in between the hunting seasons to recharge my drive/want to be out there as well as enjoy my other hobbies in life.
Golf, fish, and sometimes work. Summers are so short in MN, that you have to cram a lot of activities in and practice with the bows.
Farm, hay, mow, spray, trail cameras, minerals. No fishing for me unless its taking my boys to my buddies pond....fishing has gotten too boring to me. I love sitting out watching deer come in the fields at dusk... As others have said, the preparation/ work is almost more enjoyable to me than the actual sits.
Prepping for bear season some but mostly fishing, working, and lots of family time. Come fall my family time gets cut short so I give it my all come summer. Besides putting food plots in for deer and putting my cams out in mid July deer hunting is not a thought in my head in the summer. Walleyes, big panfish, spending quality time with my daughter take center stage in the summer. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Work my butt off so whenever November rolls around I can be be done working for the year and hunt as much as possible. Of course when you only really work 8 months out of year that's not hard. Other than that run trail cams and help buddy with crops and cattle since he lets me hunt his farm. Also do stuff on families 80 acres.
Shoot, house work, kids activities. That's what keeps me busy until I know when and where I'm hunting for the year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Couldn't have said it any better. Granted, I have way more time in the summer to "prep" for hunting than most due to my job, but I don't need the whole summer to do that. Plenty of time for other things. I like experiencing new things. For instance, this weekend I helped out and photographed a 12hr overnight endurance race. Maybe I have undiagnosed ADD :D If I focused 100% on hunting all year long, the monotony would drive me nuts. Not to mention drive my wife nuts :D Pat is right, though. The work is often done when you're not hunting.
