Bahaha stole it verbatim right out of my head. This has nothing to do with a class move on Wisconsins part, and everything to do with hoping to find a better coach.
bwah, classy. You equate this move with class and apply it to an entire conference. Glad you feel morally superior up there in Big 10 country. Just ask the people of West Virgina how classy the Big 10 is, after Rich Rod debacle. Its a business, nothing more.
If he is the best fit for their job, I think it is dumb as heck. If he is the best fit for your program you go after him, no give a bunch of feel good quotes about how you have great morals to the press. Reasons like this is why Wisconsin Will never be elite. Times change and Wisconsin stays the same. I am not saying he is the man for the job, only commenting on better than you Barry A quotes.
I actually do believe BA would not try to get PC back if he wanted him. Barry has been known to do stuff like this in the past. He is disappointed that Arkansas didn't ask for permission to talk to BB. That is how Barry rolls. Would he be able to survive in today's age? Perhaps not. I'm fine with it because I'm not sure PC is the best HC for Wisconsin and I don't think Barry does either. From what I hear he is going for something higher at this point. We will see. Also that is not why Wisconsin has not become elite (your definition of elite). The reason Wisconsin will always be at a disadvantage to say Ohio state is we have very little decent instate recruits. In addition our boarder states don't really have much either. It's not a blue chip area. It also can be darn hard to convince a kid from Florida or Texas to come to Wisconsin's icebox. The only way Wisconsin is successful is to keep what in-state talent we have, develop players well, keep poaching Minnesota's best players, pick up the good leftovers in Florida, Texas, NJ and beat out Ohio State for some of the really good Ohio kids (i.e. Lee Evans, Chris Borland, etc). We just cherry picked a great QB out of Michigan under BB. Our recruiting has never been better. But we will never be on a level playing field with Ohio State and will probably never be "elite" because of it which I am fine with. I like the way Wisconsin plays football and runs their program. We have done pretty damn good for the last 20 years with the hand we were dealt.
I'll repeat. They have their sights set higher. Nothing more. Anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves. This statement is their polite way of stating they are pissed at how Arky poached their coach.
Hire a coach that the players want to play for, and have the facilities that kids love and Wisconsin could be an elite program. Look what Osbourne did in Nebraska. Why would a kid want to go to the corn fields? Because Nebraska had a coach and program that kids wanted to play for. Look at the rise of TCU. They went from being some tiny nobody into a very powerful program. They started with only getting scrap recruits, now they can reel in some big time kids. All Wisconsin has to do is follow those examples.
Sure that is a possibility, but I believe he believes what he said. If these bigger fish he is looking at don't come through, what's he go left to fall back on? Not Chryst after what he said.
Either he would not consider it or he already knows who it is going to be. He would not of burned that bridge if he thinks he may of needed it. Old Barry wasn't born yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
