Remember these dudes... Here they are now... And my buddy and I were discussing this buck for awhile lastnight... we were trying to decide if it is the big one in the pictures above or if it is a different buck. It looks too wide to me to be the same buck but it is also a photo from behind...
Sweet pics, that last buck looks like a wide boy! Good luck with him. Your camera takes excellent pics!
beautiful bucks. Looks like his ears are layed back on the last picture which could make him look wider
Great pics and some realy good bucks. Hard to tell from behind, They always look bigger from that angle. Good luck with them this season.
Thanks guys, The camera is my buddy's Swamp Ghost Digital. It is pretty much a homebrew using a Sony camera. It takes great photos and it has been very reliable. The camera is set on a fence post at an open gate leading from alfalfa/clover fields to a gaswell surrounded by thick crab apple trees. It is a hot spot for deer during the summer.
I know Scott, he has the short tines like the other buck, but he looks wider.... but then again it could be the angle. Here is the same photo zoomed in a bit and I tried adjusting the contrast to make the buck stand out more...
Dude.. If I were you.. I'd be noting the direction that buck is coming from RIGHT now.. and try and pinpoint his likely nearby bedding area. He appears in open at last light.. that USUALLY means he's VERY close. Find out why and hunt him down. Nice buck.
We have a very good idea of where he is bedding... the pictures where he is in the tall grass on the right side... he is coming out of a hillside that is thick crab apple trees. It is one of the major bedding areas for the deer during this time of the year. We have two stand sets about two hundred yards back the hillside where the crabs meet the hardwoods, and we have a hang-on set between those stands and where this photo was taken on a cut gas line that cuts the crab's in half. The major problem is that the corn is planted on the opposite side of the farm and that section of woods is MUCH bigger with more scattered bedding. We will be keeping our eyes on these bucks though and the first week or two of season will more than likely be spent trying to ambush them near where these photos were taken.
