For the last 3 months I have been shooting arrows that were not tuned for my recurve. It has been tough, but one bright side is that the inconsistency in my arrows forced me to really work on my form. If my form was off at all, then my arrows reacted without forgiveness.

Yesterday the arrows I ordered arrived, full length at 32 inches. I went through the bareshaft tuning process and finally settled on a 30.5 inch Beman 400 arrow with a 150 grain head. I fletched my practice arrows bright orange so I could see them in flight and if I lose any of them during practice. Even thought my new arrows and my old arrows had very similar overall weights, my new arrows are flying much straighter and with more force. They are penetrating the target several inches deeper than my old arrows. I also adjusted my brace height to 8 1/4 and it shot even better.

The only problem I am currently having is that I switched over to a fast flight string from a B-50 string and my bow is louder. I need to quiet this thing down! Any suggestions?

You guys have to appreciate the arrow tuning process when it goes just right. Well it did for me the last two days. My practice sessions have been more enjoyable and my confidence is soaring as my groups have tightened up just because my arrows are more efficient, and even my bad shots are not near as bad as they were with my old, out of tune arrows. I am pumped!

3 Things come to mind, Brett:

    1. Is your bow Fast Flight compatible?

    2. You can add string silencers/felt pads at your contact points.....BUT....you need to add them BEFORE you tune....or, re-tune after you add them.

    3. Do you think it's loud, because YOU can hear it? What does it sound like from in front? When I'm shooting with a buddy, I'll get downrange and stand behind something (just use some commone sense) and listen to them shoot my bow. It sounds a lot different from that angle (and that's the only one that matters).

    Good luck.

Still haven't shot my new bow!.....lol

Brett your bow isn't FF compatable, I'm almost positive! I would take it off or chance snapping off your limb tips.

Jeff, I added the felt before I put on the FF string.

Rob, I am newbie so I did not know. I will order a B-50 string. It felt easier to handle than the FF anyways. Thanks.

I gave you a B-50, do you need another?

How old is the bow? According to the Howatt website the new X-200's are FF compatable.

I believe I bought the bow for my father in 2002-2003 or so. I really appreciate you offering me another string Rob. However, I won't be able to get down to your house for a good 10-12 days so I might as well order one. The bow is shooting so well right now with the increased BH and the arrow set-up that I am kind of bummed I have to set it back up...oh well, live learn and grow!

Isn't It something when you find that perfect match??!! For 13 years I thought I had a great arrow set up. Don't get me wrong It was a good arrow set up but I didn't realize how perfect an arrow set up could be when I started shooting 340 FMJ's. Best thing I've had happen to me In a long time shooting traditional.

Jeff Is right but I'm thinking It really depends on the size and weight of the string silencers depending on whether or not It will have an effect on arrow flight. My silencers are fairly small and I can't tell the difference whether their on or off with arrow flight.

Best of luck Brett, hope It's not much of a transition for ya.
