Saw where Cabrera is worth 45-60 mil a year in generated revenue to the tigers. I also saw where MLB just passed a very strict blood testing program and the suspensions are 80 games, then 162 then lifetime ban...also no playoffs if found dirty that year. A lot of the guys who are getting better in their mid 30's will start to decline the way they use too...before hgh. if my braves lose another starter to Tommy john we are toast...even with an American League type lineup.
Ok ok ok... Miggy is one of the best hitters of our generation, but have we forgotten how awesome Albert Pujols was with the Cardinals? I don't think it is fair to just say Miggy is the best hitter we have seen in 50 years. Top 10 in that time-frame? Yeah, no doubt. Even Barry Bonds, despite the steroid stuff, and him being a jackwagon, was a fantastic hitter. If you threw him a strike, it was a bomb. There is more than just steroids working there. I think he would've been a HOFer without the steroids.
I say this as a native Michigander and die-hard Tiger fan: uh, if I'm the best hitter on the planet, pretty sure you'd have to pay me close to $50,000 per AB to stay in Detroit. That being said, if they get 5 more years of great production (say .320, 40, and 120,) and another 2-3 years after that of really good production (.290, 30, and 90) it was definitely worth it.
Best hitter in the last 50 years without a doubt. http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=9568471&src=desktop
They go hand in hand. He's not going to be worth 50 million a year to the Tigers in 5 or 6 years when he's a DH hitting .260.. 22 HR and 75 RBi's. a season. He is worth it now. A 5 year deal would make perfect sense. You honestly (as the business man you are) think he's going to retain the same value after 5-10 years as he does now? Really dude? There's nothing wrong with saying deals like this are 95% front loaded.
