Here in VA this thing had some momentum until the last couple of weeks when many of us voiced strong opposition to addition during bow season. I was worried it was going to be included to archery season outright so I was actually a little relieved when it only was allowed for disabled hunters during archery and anbody can use it during general firearms.

It's pretty simple, it's not a bow. The flight characteristics and effective kill range are comparable to high end bows and crossbows so I don't feel like people are going to be rushing out buying these, getting doctors notes, etc. They are also pretty expensive and the air tanks seem tedious.

I'm all for getting folks in the woods but I also think the seasons should be respected.

This may seem a bit hypocritical coming from me, since I just switched over to a crossbow, but this weapon is not a bow in any sense of the imagination. A bow; compound, recurve, longbow, or crossbow, propels an arrow by means of energy stored in the string and limbs of the bow. This device does not. If it is allowed as a legal weapon, other than for a disabled hunter, it should be allowed only during firearms season. As a matter of fact, im really not sure why the word; "bow" is included in the description. This is clearly a gun that shoots arrows. Just my thoughts on the subject.

    Blessings..........Pastorjim

Would be a joke if this were permitted in any fashion during an archery season.

Will NEVER happen in Minnesota, heck they have not budged on crossbows.

I think all pneumatics (regardless of projectile) should be lumped into muzzleloader seasons and be done with it. They are loaded from the muzzle and use gas propellant rather than mechanical propulsion to "launch" the projectile; ergo they are not archery equipment.

That being said I would absolutely be willing to use one to hunt with during said muzzleloader season.

The word bow is in the description for marketing purposes only. It is even described on the company website as an air gun (which it is).

There's over a million deer here in VA. I genuinely don't care what a legitimately disabled person uses to hunt, they can hunt with a rifle from their truck as far as I'm concerned. My concerns are those people that will abuse that "disabled" loophole and the slippery slope that exists when you allow a weapon that does not fit within the rules of a season in, especially when the push for it is being ram-rodded by a company within the hunting industry trying to make money $ with no actual concern for disabled hunters. Essentially they are using the sympathy/empathy folks feel in regards to disabled / elderly hunters to push their agenda....kinda sleezy.

Tennessee approved the use of the Air Bow this year. Permanently disabled hunters may use during the archery-only season, all other may use during the modern gun season, excludes muzzleloader season. It's only a matter of time until they hear enough complaints/see enough "interest aka $$$" in the use of air bows until it becomes available for all to use. What's the point of having an archery only season if everyone is out here using a "rifle" all year. I get the use of crossbows, but this is getting out of hand.

Same tune, second or third verse.

The article mentions the first step of the slippery slope. The slippery slope began with 65% let off compounds, then 80%, then 90%, and then the crossbow.

True, a crossbow is technically a bow and this clearly is not, but ease of shooting and avoidance of having to draw on live animal and hold, whether that be at 60% or 90% let off is the same. Yes, a crossbow, stores it’s energy in the limbs, but it was not generated nor any portion of the stored energy required to be held by the hunter, which is a major distinction between the crossbow and vertical bows.

With this weapon, you have scope like a crossbow, and still limited to same effective range, shot angle, shot placement, etc., which is more limited and unforgiving as compared to muzzleloader or rifle.

It is not going to affect me one way or the other, so I don’t have a dog in the fight nor am I going to lose sleep over it or a crossbow, but I do have and opinion and objectively, I really can’t see how anyone that is ok with a crossbow in an archery only season would have a problem with this weapon.

For the reasons stated above, this weapon, air bow or air gun, take your pick for a label, has more similarities with the crossbow than a conventional gun.

Being that this has zero impact on me I don't really care one way or the other because as others have stated users appear to be as equally limited in their shots as a crossbow shooter. If it were allowed for youth, elderly, or disabled during archery then I see no problem. Hell, what others pick as their weapon of choice doesn't impact me and if it peaks someones interest enough to get them in the woods then I say have at it

If the state wants to make a special weapons season that’s fine with me, I don’t even care if it runs parallel with some of the archery season. But this weapon is a bino (bow in name only) and it shouldn’t be classified as archery equipment. Other states allow the use of large caliber air rifles to take big game. This weapon belongs in that category.

The reason I got into bow hunting was for the extra challenge of getting a deer closer into range, pulling the bow back getting on target and letting the arrow fly, and not having to deal with the orange army during the bow season. I'm not against using a gun or this, but I sure hope it stays where it needs to and that's in the gun season. Once again, not against at all, heck might even try one but keep it in the season it needs to be in and that is gun season. Should be arrow gun not Airbow. To me it could be someone that doesnt want to use actual bow and still hunt during bow season, but that is just a thought. Could be nothing of the sort. But these are just my thoughts.

Bullpup configuration, short 33.5” overall length...when was the last time you heard of a bow with that description? As stated in the article and previous comments it creates a slippery slope. It's not in any shape or form a bow yet one state is allowing it to be used as such and another during a "Modern Gun" season. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that at some point, someone will bend a law and use it illegally. I also understand that Crossman is trying to capitalize on the hunting industry and carve out their own niche but to claim they are making bowhunting safer by giving people compressed air guns with arrows sticking out of them and only the pull of a trigger to release the arrow? Give me a freaking break!
